Soul sand was easy, but I can't find netherwart anywhere. So, I fed all my reputation to the random number gods and eventually got one. I just have to not die for a while.

How the hell do you get started out in blight fall?

Start in one of the easy domes. Alpha is good, but it doesn't matter that much because you can access the others easily enough.

Do Instructor quests, including the tutorial ones if you don't already know Tinker's Construct. You'll need to leave the dome to go to the swamp to get clay, otherwise you can get a solid start without putting yourself in any danger. If I were to do it again, I'd build my smeltery on the outside of the dome and knock a hole so I can access it, that way I'd have more room for farming. The smeltery isn't affected by taint. Your first goal is to get through the hard metal gate. Soft metal is easy, you can find Promethium below Alpha, but the only hard metal you can get below Alpha is Iron, and you can't make a vanilla Iron pick. So, you're looking for Bronze (copper and tin, all tech metals are very rare but when you find one ore, you can requisition ingots from the Jaded), or something called Oureclass or something which is below the swamp.

Anyway. Get armor, get a sword, do scout quests. Do not go to the later destinations, they tend to have humanoid enemies that can't really be killed yet. Even a hunter is a serious threat. Reputation feels cheap during this phase, but you'll hit a wall when you run out of scout locations, and the repeatable missions from the Colonist don't give you that much reputation considering what they want from you. Your priority now is probably thaumcraft research, though your tools can still be upgraded a lot without too much danger. And set up a varied farm, Spice of Life will heavily nerf your food otherwise.

Anyone know where the netherwart is hidden? Preferably somewhere without tainted (hunters/botanists/thaumaturges/chickens).

Ok, so apparently, this is what a save file looks like:

Its a binary format, so view it in a hex editor. However, without knowing the file format, you won't be able to tell what any of it means so your chances of fixing it are slim.

Thaumcraft taint swarm spawners. Its a fast, flying mob only visible by the particle effects it trails, and it has no drop. The reward for killing a spawner is simply a slightly less hostile environment - but any tree degrades into crusted taint and that creates more spawners, so many areas cannot practically be pacified.

Any blightfall players have any advice on how to deal with taint swarms? Any area that used to have trees becomes very dangerous. Or perhaps I just suck at minecraft combat.

Thats to allow for upgrading to more advanced furnaces later on in the game.

EMDrive has been proven to generate thrust. This leaves three options:

It has an exhaust that we haven't detected yet.

Its a photon drive - although experiments are giving it much too high an efficiency to be a photon drive, hence all the excitement.

Its a reactionless drive - in which case, physics is completely and utterly wrong.

I know which option I'd bet on.

You only need to do three out of the eight gating quests. (Unless you've done that and the guy asks for more afterward?). Anyway, there should be a mana pool somewhere in the world if we are asked for a tiny potato before being able to create one. I have a guess as to where, but I want a decent crossbow first.

floral fertilizer has no recipe in this modpack - Botania is heavily gated. We're supposed to do some quests to enable the one guy on the ship who thinks these flowers are valuable to scan for them. So, forget any easy shortcuts. You can't even craft the lexica botanica without completing another quest line to translate the alien language, and then you have to find one of their copies.

Thats strange, because I was able to cheat in nether rutile ore after an unfair death.

Theres a little gold at bedrock under biodome alpha, it definitely requires a hard metal pick to mine.

I think the scout guy says something about their being a useful metal for this under the swamps. At any rate, the tutorial quest line seems to be leading towards being able to make metal tools, so Ill keep following that.

Normal mobs won't spawn in tainted areas, but they should spawn as normal in clean areas. I've already had a bunch of normal pigs spawn around the totem near biodome alpha.

Belts are a pain to make work properly, and sometime medication stop moving in the good direction because there's a T junction leading nowhere, and there's a weird sequencer bug that makes the throughput of 2 parallel pill maker 24/month instead of 30/month, which is worse with 3turn machines, but overall very few bugs, just UI concerns and maybe balance issues. I read they will add belt crossing soon, so it should be easier to use a mixer with a good throughput.

Give the machines room to unload rather than put a T directly after them, and you should get your 30/month throughput.

But, yeah, belts in general suck. I'd prefer if they worked like Factorio belts and pulled items through them, rather than items having to be pushed by subsequent outputs. And the layout tools need work. Still, its Alpha.

Why hasn't someone firebombed the corporate HQ yet for making this horrible game?

Because vengeance never accomplishes anything? Kill them all and there's nobody to even try to make the X4 we all want, or bring Rebirth into a playable state.

Plus, you'd go to jail.

You'd need a ton of logistic bots to replace belts for bulk materials, but they are excellent for compensating for flaws in your belt network. If you need to bring high tier items together but didn't allow for that earlier on, logistics bits are an answer.
