Because you said you added detail of your "GE history".  When you also just said that your vote on Gentlefish wasn't actually based on any evidence.  What "history" could you have had to post if you had no evidence?

EBWOP:

Then why what detail could you have to post?

That's what I get for posting at 2:50 AM all hopped up on cold & flu meds.

Answer in bold huh?
I will fully admit my reason's for voting him at the time were weak and stupid it was based off a feeling more then actual evidence I voted him because I got a bad vibe not because other people were voting him. Also the reason's I haven't voted anyone I'm having a hard time reading through all the posts people are not giving me any real vibes or feelings to help me along ultimately it comes down to that I'm having a hard time finding evidence and as such I am having a hard time forming opinions that are solid enough for me to vote someone.

Hold on, so your original vote was based on no evidence, just a feeling?  Then why detail could you have to post?

Actually only one of those could be even considered a bandwagon which is snowdwarf but I voted him because as it says in the quoted post I felt he was evasive and dodging questions and that felt scummy to me.Gentlefish which I assume is the other bandwagon your talking about I actually was beaten to the punch by someone else why I was writing that post but I decided to post it anyway after adding some detail about my GE history.

So you did bandwagon snow dwarf, but you didn't bandwagon Gentlefish, even though you had no actual evidence on Gentlefish?

ATH, that just looks scummy as hell.

Wait, so those tells even differ from board to board?  Wow.  That is way more variable than I would have expected.

Hmmm.  Okay, that makes sense.  I'll have to do some more reading on Mafiascum.

The chance for anyone to be scum is 2 in 7. You always assume you're town. So, if you believe that one person in that list is scum, then what are the chances that scum avoided a bandwagon on Town? I find it more likely to avoid trying to lynch a Townie: The essence of the Trying Too Hard To Look Town scumtell. And you know, it usually IS a nulltell, but for beginners, it has outstanding merit. So, it's actually more likely that one of the three people who DIDN'T vote snow dwarf is scum.

Woah.  I never would have thought about that.  Maybe I shouldn't discount this whole 's/([scum|null])tell//' thing.  So far, I've mostly assumed that it's just some cargo-cult of knowledge that doesn't have a lot of actual grounding in reality, but I'm wondering if I haven't discarded a useful tool prematurely.  What's a good place to go to read up on some of this?

Here's a list of whom voted for snow dwarf, in order so far as I can tell:
Gentlefish, webadict, AbstractTraitorHero, doomchild, Persus13

Time to hunt for the bandwagoniers!

DoomChild:
You've had reasoned suspicions for snow, and voted him when he offered the idea that maybe he -was- mafia. Your vote -seems- right, but if I take a page out of Hector's book (:P) that does make me feel a little uncomfortable. Do you think it's likely that someone whom voted for snow dwarf is mafia? How do you plan on rooting them out?

First off, I think calling all of the votes on snow dwarf a bandwagon is an indirect attack.  Some people might have been bandwagoning, but people choosing independently to vote for the same target is not a bandwagon.  A part of why I took a while to finally put my vote down was because I knew that I would get accused of hopping on the bandwagon, when in fact I had legitimate suspicions.

Secondly, this whole "that seems right, and therefore it must be scummy" thing has me really confused.  So, I'm being attacked for following up on what I and others perceive as scummy behavior?  That mindset seems to imply that townies should play their cards close to the vest, which I think is a big mistake.  The mafia has the advantage when nobody acts openly, because suspicion brews fast and hot in that kind of environment.

Finally, coming from a purely statistical point of view, it seems reasonably likely to me that at least one scum was in the list of snow dwarf voters.  We know Persus13 was town, so that leaves the other 4.  I feel like I've been completely open and honest about why I was suspicious of snow dwarf, and I think the only way to make any headway on finding out if there is a scum in the list is for everybody else to do the same.

I generally don't mind it when people say they're town when they're asked to provide a list of town reads (I actually loathe it, but I've seen people from n00bs to vets do it, so it's a null tell) but it's notable when they volunteer the information on their own.

Would it be fair for me to assume you read webadict as town?

I do read webadict as town. More accurately, I did "yesterday". Currently, though, he's slipping into neutral ground, not offering up much. Though considering the weekend only ended yesterday, not a lot of people have.

So which is it?  Do you find him suspicious, or don't you?

ATH:
I'd say I've been quite reactive yes but mainly because I had no idea of any leads or what to say at all really but first I guess we can try and figure out why persus went down I mean why him exactly he didn't post much and you'd think the Mafia would want to keep that around.
Snowdwarf I felt was very newbish and I felt he was very dodgy and unsure what to do but to me it just seemed he was dodging questions and persus..well he posted barely anything I have very little information to go off right now and it seems that today will be about trying to draw slip up's more then anything.

You seem pretty quick to brush off Persus' death. Why? You're also talking about a WIFOM. They killed persus because persus was quiet but don't they want to keep quiet people around? maybe they did it to throw us off their trail but maybe they're expecting us to think that et cetera.

So your answer to someone spreading WIFOM is to...spread more WIFOM?  I don't like the look of this.

And as for the reason why I haven't jumped on the bandwagon, between being sick and wanting to be more sure before I vote again, I'm taking my time.

...

I don't see how this isn't you claiming to be mafia, snow dwarf.

You understand why this looks odd, yes?

Perhaps you'd like to explain how that's taking your time?

Poor phrasing on my part.  My intent was something along the lines of, "I haven't jumped on the bandwagon because I've been sick and I want to be sure of my own suspicions (since my previous knee-jerk voting wasn't a good idea), so I've been taking my time thinking about it and re-reading posts, but now that snow dwarf posted this, I'm confident enough to vote."

Doomchild:
fillipk, why haven't you posted yet?  You're plotting with your scumbuddy, aren't you?
How serious was this question?

That was an RVS question.  I wanted to ask something provocative, which is what I thought RVS was all about.  You know, say something jarring, try to spur a reaction.
Generally attacking someone for not posting 40 minutes after the game started is not considered great play. See here and here for a hilarious example of that.

What I meant was that'd I be rereading everything and forming new opinions and as such plan what I'd post.

New opinions?  Are you sure you don't mean that you needed to converse with your scumpal and come up with some dastardly scheme to bring down the rest of us townies?
What's wrong with rereading the thread and forming new opinions?

Absolutely nothing.  That was, again, an RVS-style accusation, intended to get a reaction.  One of the things I've learned is that there's a very definite change in tone between RVS and actual scumhunting, and I failed to recognize the timing, leading to me asking broadly accusatory questions when more probing examination is called for.
Alright, good to see you're learning. Why did you consider that an RVS question?

From what I've seen, there isn't always a lot of truth to RVS questions.  They aren't an actual accusation intended to establish fact, they're a (usually) baseless accusation intended to evoke a reaction, which may provide some kind of clue to the askee's mental state.  If it gives you something concrete to use, you try and widen the crack with other questions.  I don't actually know what the accepted practice is otherwise, so I defaulted to asking another one.

Doomchild is probably highest on my list of suspicions (This was written before snow child posted the post for which I voted him for). I've found some of his questions and scumhunting strategies questionable so far in a scummy way
EP has the highest post count, so according to the notquitethere theory he's probably town, and I have yet to see anything to contradict that possibility.
Lynching D1 is always the best way to find scum in a BM.
The other questions are RVS questions.

So, presumably, you found something(s) in snow dwarf's posts scummier than mine.  What was it/were they?
The same post you subsequently voted him over.

Okay.  I didn't really get that before.

I'm still not at 100% (new meds always do a number on me), but I'm laying in bed and need something to do, so here we go:

doomchild

I'm unvoting Gentlefish for now, because I also need to remember to consider cock-ups before conspiracy.

I'm not ready to vote snow dwarf yet, but I definitely have some pretty strong suspicion about him.

Just so you're aware, this reticence to jump on a bandwagon isn't a good thing in my book. It also makes your previous vote on Gentlefish look like a massive OMGUS. Were you only voting for him because he was voting for you?

I knew somebody would eventually try to bust me for that, even though no, it wasn't a OMGUS situation.  I voted for him because (as I stated at the time) his absolute certainty looked super scummy to me (because only the mafia would know with true certainty who is and isn't town), and because his apparent willingness to lynch me over such shoddy evidence wasn't useful to town.  I backed off after his explanation because he and I effectively made the same mistake (i.e. thinking everybody else is being malicious, when in fact most of us are just totally inexperienced).  I'm still not completely shed of my suspicion, but it's taken a backseat lately.

And as for the reason why I haven't jumped on the bandwagon, between being sick and wanting to be more sure before I vote again, I'm taking my time.

Doomchild:

Yeah, you're right.  I am going after lurkers.  I suppose a lot of that would be that it seems (after reading previous games) that lurkers tend to do way more harm than good to town, and since I want to win, we need to get them to talk, right?
Voting lurkers doesn't usually work towards getting them active as they usually have non-game reasons for not posting. Voting active lurkers on the other hand can.

Noted.  I'm learning all the time.

What I meant was that'd I be rereading everything and forming new opinions and as such plan what I'd post.

To anybody who sees my not want to post my scum list scummy. I really don't understand why would you vote on me just because of the fact that I didn't post my list. The reason behind me not posting it is just because I didn't have the list down on paper cause everything in my mind was changing so fast and I thought that I won't write it down until I get some better suspicions.

I can't speak for everybody else, but someone intentionally withholding information just feels super scummy to me.  If you have a suspicion, put it out there.  Think before you speak, of course, but don't tease something like that, because then everybody is going to assume you're holding back, and why would you hold back unless you wanted the town to lose?

I know I'm probably the biggest suspect.... but if I'm mafia (I'm not saying that I am) and I am nervous so why don't keep me for later and I guess you could try to get out of me who is the second scum (not like I know who he is) and you can always lynch me later.

I don't see how this isn't you claiming to be mafia, snow dwarf.

Replacement Request. Stuff's going down.

Boo!  Feel better.  OR ELSE.

But you were trying too hard

What about ATH's posts looked like "trying too hard" to you?  That's a pretty vague statement, and if that's one of your key reasons for putting me under the spotlight (it is), then I want more than vague accusations.

Why is Elephant Parade on your list if you don't have a reason?  That makes it seem like you're just throwing out names in an attempt to deflect suspicion onto them.  Or that your suspicion comes from nowhere, which means your judgment of what is and isn't scummy is exceptionally unreliable.  Either way, it doesn't make you look useful to the town.
