So what medication should I be taking?  I think I'll have to line them all up in rows of 7, and throw away the cracked/scratched pills.  And Don't. Bump. The. Table!!!!
The green pills and the very small pills work the best. So ideally, very small green pills.

Prehaps you should research before you act like a douchebag.
Aww did I step on someone's toeseys?

I embark at 500 for two reasons: The first is that civilization radius seems to cap around 100, and this gives a little time to do multiple expansions from home base. The second is that waiting too long just creates a larger industrialization and consolidation, which I don't prefer. I'de rather have multiple smaller civilizations, rather than a giant plowed field.

Seems to be a relatively new bug in the system. This has only recently been reported several times as a problem in version .17 and .18 that the game periodically freezes, but doesn't do so reliably. I've seen it on a couple embarks, and just abandoned the embark. My current fort in .18 hasn't had this problem, and I'm on year 5 with 179 dwarves.

Yes, it's normal for DF players. Just keep taking your medication and you should be good.

Sweet, We've got kids! I'm gonna teach 'em everything I know about cooking and combat. Maybe she'll grow up to be the next great chef, or take after mom and become a great smelter or glassmaker.

Tise the slavering one-eyed mite, and it's poisonous spittle? Some say that we Doom Dwarves got marked by the spittle of one such as he.  'We meet again,' he laughs nervously.

AngleWyrm scratches his bald head, as he often does when thinking, and wonders what kind of dwarves their children are.

Then I noticed a dwarf who's favorite food is a type of milk.
What type of milk? Do you actually have the creatures to milk? Substitution is unlikely to work. If he likes platypus milk, he's not gonna get happy thoughts from cat milk.

Dragon's will grow to the size of 10,000,000 when they reach the age of 1000, if you embark for say; 250 years; you will only see a quarter of there full power.  Also later on in years a lot of things change; the weaker die; strong survive; less civs, less megabeast.

Flawed argument. I've embarked on year 1 and all my dwarves were much older than 1. So it stands to reason that there's no arbitrary start of age at year 1. A dragon might already have lived half it's life or more.

Also: megabeasts die out, but the strong survive? Strong what, exactly? No, I think it's the lucky that survive. Lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

Early Winter of 505 in the County of Ringquest, pop. 176   fps 17(13)

We've been raised to a county, and our Baron promoted to Count. He immediately declared that he needed a much nicer office, and some improvements on his tomb, and an extra cabinet for his collection of bismuth blocks.

The cavern entrance attracted a gremlin, who was shooed off back into the depths of the caverns, and also a giant rat. The rat hung around the gate, peeking in on the training soldiers, but not causing any distruptions. So we let him stay, and stay he did for a season. When winter approached, he headed back into the darker corners of the caverns, perhaps to find a warm steam vent.

Late Summer of 505 in the Metropolis of Ringquest, pop. 166  fps 16(13)

The Duke demonstrated an unusually high level of incompetence at the job of Broker. When the human caravan arrived, he went on break. Then he conducted a pointless meeting with their liason, in which they basically just jerked off for a couple days. Then he went back on break. When he got off break, he went to get something to drink, and then something to eat. And after that? Back on break.

Rather than wait for him to come off break only to go have a nap, I've found a more motivated individual for the job of broker.

Reading the title of this thread, I got "How good are rock shorts now?"
Um...Still heavier than their cotton counterparts?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress in 3D !!SCIENCE!!

But other than interface issues, almost nothing changes going to 3D.

That hasn't been my experience; what I have observed is that a lot of the game changes when going to 3D: It gets dumbed down heavily. There is a general loss of depth of play. Going to 3D nerfs the game.

The only notable exception to this that I've seen recently is StarCraft 2, and they had an enormous staff.

Systematically culled 90% of the fort's children and babies due to FPS issues. The resulting tantrum spiral killed about 200 dwarves. Oops.

I love it when "evil" turns out to be "stupid." It's very gratifying.

The evilest thing I've done in my current fort was seize the elves supplies, because they complained that there was wood in my offerings. After picking through to give them the right stuff and apparently missing some small item, I was pissed and just took what I wanted. I still feel a little pang of cheater when I think about it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Statues!

I give my dwarves a statue in every room. 3x4 with a statue, bed, table, chair, cabinet and coffer, smoothed results in Decent quarters, which I guess leads to happier dwarves.

Mid Spring of 505 in the Metropolis of Ringquest, pop. 157  fps 20(15)

Thanks to a huge vein of limonite, we've outfitted two full squads in steel, and have enough left over to shore up the entrance weapon traps with a third row of serrated iron discs. Not that it's necessary; our military has beaten the goblins so thoroughly that they rarely poke their nose into the realm. But just in case they get uppity and try a seige, we'll be ready.

Construction this season has focused on setting up a royal suite, in case the queen should deign to visit our humble abode. Also, the general populous quarters are being upgraded to Decent quarters for everyone. We shall have a reputation of one of the nicest places to live in the kingdom.

We've also discovered the caverns, and are setting up a military outpost at what will be the entrance to the caverns. The plan is a barracks, training grounds, small dining area and food storage, along with a silk loom and silk storage.
