DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Stay away from castles!
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:47:03 am »
I played a fortress last night in the new version as was able to get it up to about 30 dwarves before three ambushes took me by suprise. No slow down problems. Playing adventurer today, and when I hit a castle zone I am able to take about one in-game step every 5-10 real life seconds. Haven't played adventurer much - is it that much more computer intensive or are castles just full of stuff to move around and keep track of?
Anyone else having massive lag in specific areas?
Also had a CTD while exploring the fort I abandoned, but I was doing lots of other stuff on the computer at the time so there's no science there.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarf Fortress IRL

My friend and I were talking about newer Mercedes diesel engines, and part of their efficiency is urea injection. Don't really know what that means, but it got us to talking about ways to inject urea, and he suggested storing a cat in the glove box, and my first thought was that will totally work, cats won't starve to death in a cage!

DF has sent a party of seven to my brain.

DF General Discussion / a warning...
« on: August 29, 2011, 01:08:10 pm »
I don't have any screens of this as it all happened so gradually that I didn't really notice what was going on until it was too late.
I had soldier who lost both feet early on. I kept seeing that he was cancelling eat orders due to injury but didn't think much of it, until all my dwarves were hunting vermin for food - turns out that he was claiming ALL the food but not eating it. By the time I managed to shut him in his room to starve (I don't have any execution chambers) the tantrum spiral had started. To make matters worse, and caravan showed up and all my dwarves ran outside to try to steal the food or something, and at that moment a siege showed up. Of course all the death made the tantrum spiral worse, and by the time all the goblins had been killed, tantruming dwarves punished, children who lost their parents died of insanity, and wounded dwarves who couldn't get cleaned died of infection I had lost over 50 dwarves.

The moral of story is to not let footless dwarves last that long!
