Palad’in looked upon His world and smiled, for everything was turning out wonderfully. The world was perfect; the deeps were horrific, and the lands and seas were populated by creatures to His liking. The dwarves delved, the humans built, and the elves made beautiful songs.
But something was missing. The Nameless World was missing an opposing force, something to challenge the peaceful peoples. Their lives were meaningless without challenge.
Palad’in traveled back to the Planet of Plates, and was surprised at the life flourishing on the surface. It was much easier to find suitable subjects this time. He abducted 10 elves and dwarves, and brought them back to the Nameless World.
The elves and dwarves were separated, for Palad’in had different plans for both groups.
The elves’ hopes at meeting their friends in the forests were soon dashed as the God blocked their escape route. He immolated them with his holy fire, but they were not consumed. No, they had become disfigured, but they drew power from the fire. Their tall frames filled out with mass and their teeth grew into small tusks. Now as they were once elves, they held a natural disdain for all “lesser” races. Their disfigurement made them hate the true elves, for they were still pleasing to behold.
A similar thing happened to the captured dwarves; however, instead of fire, energy was used. They became as the elves, but smaller, and more ape-like. They shared their hatred of all races with the former elves, and once estranged races allied.
Palad’in named these creatures Orcs; the taller ones were Uruk, and the smaller were Goblins. They both hated and worshipped Palad’in, for even as he deformed them, he empowered them. He gave unto the Uruks the crossbow and the scimitar, and the goblins received the mace and the dagger. He bade them challenge the other races for dominance once they had become established upon the world, and to that end, her took them to the uninhabited mountain and imparted unto them the knowledge of working the Black Sun metal into towers.
Palad’in stood back and watched the Orcs erect the first Black Tower. Balance had been brought to the world once more.
