It's a bit silly. They should keep coming at you no matter what, until you give 'em a whack in the head with the shovel. Err, pick.
And not getting any credit for killing them is just lame. :/

I guess it prevents dorfs from not caring about anything at all any more before the first year is up...  then again, if I had to face an endless siege of undead wildlife, it'd take a toll on me, too.

At least it's keeping my military in shape.

It's the Bloody Picks' second year at Uristkogan.

The dwarven civ is dead in this world; I've never been so pathetically grateful for potash makers and fish dissectors; been trying to carve out a rudimentary fort with only 14.

Move the depot closer to your workshops, or vice versa.  Or make a quantum stockpile (1-square dump) next to the depot, if you have enough haulers.

I usually concentrate on making a few high-value items to trade instead...  gold goblets, IE.

But--but--

T_T

Is this fixable by modding?  What about skeletal animals?

So, my .25 map is seething with zombie alligators, hippos, rhinos, carp, etc.  Very dwarfy.

Problem is:  I don't see the kills on my military dorfs, and there.  Are.  No.  Bodies!  >:[

Is this a known bug?  I was so looking forward to the piles and piles of valuable bones.

I'd like to say that I haven't made one on moral principle--they do sound munchkinny--but the main reason I haven't built them is because I struggle with the military in general.  :p  My preferred training method is:  embark on an area teeming with hostile wildlife; make any immigrants with useful traits  woodcutters/herbalists.

Designate the cell's table/chair as an office/dining room owned by the prisoner; it will keep interlopers out and keep the incarceree's spirits up.

Second the suggestion to create a patchwork stockpile.

Aww... The warm fuzzy side of DF players shows through.

DO NOT tell me what you intend to do with them.

>:[

How dare you!  I intend to pet them and love them and nurture them and breed them, until their population reaches catsplosion proportions and they can be unleashed on gobbo invaders.

And the socks.  And the stray single steel bolts.

I mean, kobolds *live* to steal those anyway.

Not really, sorry.  Dwarves drink from barrels until Toady updates the raws to encourage use of goblets and waterskins.  I often see my military dwarves drinking from their waterskins, sometimes even when they're off duty, but civilians are lacking this right now.  The update schedule wants dwarves to have flasks at all times, and prefer drinking from them instead of barrels.  This would help reduce off-duty time by having booze at the dwarf's location, and encourage happy thoughts from owning a flask, as well as the obvious spurning of industry to make said flasks.  The latest Talk mentioned goblets and drinking, and having dwarves grab a goblet, grab some booze, and go to the dining hall to drink it, but the tone of voice made it sound like "that'd be cool, but not worth the effort really."

I'm holding out for personal flasks myself.

Probably for the best--for me, anyway.  I'm still struggling with the beekeeping, and wondering why the bumblebee colonies never get hived.

The learning curve, it makes the brain sore.

Hmm.  Heels aren't implemented yet, are they?

Mein Gott en Himmel.

Your computer's either going to achieve the Singularity ahead of schedule or melt into a heap of steaming slag, forming a portal between our world and the realm of Yog-Sothoth.

Either way--bravo.  Keep us posted?

After Googling--wow, that's pretty nifty.

I think I've been playing DF too long, though; I can't look at this (http://www.handspiral.com/images/Uranium/Feb26/4.75Ni.jpg) without immediately imaging the artist's reaction after Urist McWorthlessHauler sees a cave spider and decides to tantrum...

Kind of OT, but--since we have pottery now, I don't suppose it's possible to mod in drinking from ale steins instead of swilling from barrels?

According to my sites and pops, my world has exactly five kobolds left in it.  :[

I will leave out some nest boxes just in case.

Yeah, I've ripped up the entire room and repaved the walls, floor, and all tiles nearby the pump and the floodgate. No luck.

So I guess it is as Sphalerite said. Sometimes, as in this case, a cistern that has been spoiled will simply never again hold fresh water.

Hmm.  That would explain my own cistern problems, too.
