DF Modding / A couple questions about castes

I'm modding in a race of sentient penguins. Ignore how stupid that is for a second. Rather than have the different species be different creatures, I'm making them castes of the same race.
My questions are twofold.

1. What tags can be used under [CASTE] rather than applying to the entirety of the creature?
2. Can I throw all of those under [CASTE] or do I have to define castes then use [SELECT_CASTE]?

The 'S' in SLADE? Yeah, that stands for silliness, not sadomasochism. Feel free to put your suicide colossi in your own game, but I shan't package it with S.L.A.D.E, unless someone can think of a better way to do it, so that the end user has the choice.

You could take it a step further and simply make a creature that is naturally cold, and can breathe in magma. Unless you consider that cheating/it is impossible/unworkable.

I'm using this to see what sort of protection armor offers. It's not because i want my adventurer to be invulnerable to magma, or I'd just play as a fire spirit.
Ah, right. I thought it was for the main purpose of getting dudes in magma, with the secondary purpose of finding out about armour. My bad.

This is an exceptionally nice and intelligent forum. And by that, I'm referring to regulars and long-time members. Newbies come along, and they either start nice, get nice to fit in or get forced out by well-thought-out ownage by the older members.
Let's face it, flaming happens, but only to those that deserve it. By which I mean the stupid and the trollish. You would never be flamed for being furry or for needing help or something else incidental and meaningless on this forum, but if your a dickhead, you're getting a verbal beatdown. When you realize your jokes about the experienced poster's mothers are having no effect, you will eventually bugger off.
At least that's how it goes in my experience.

Just embarked in a temperate biome, which meant snowy winters. My caravan happens to land halfway on top of a frozen pool. I couldn't tell at first because of the snow covering, but I realized a little later that both have my goods and my temporary butchers were on top of a frozen pool. So I deconstruct my butcher's and set up a refuse stockpile for the wolf bones and fat. Nobody felt the need to move them there, but no big deal. The pool melts, but my losses are minimal. Or so I thought.
I was setting up my metal industry. I built two smelters, one for coke and one for ore. Then I started building a forge.
No access to fire-safe anvil.
Then it hit me.
It was in the lake.
That's my metalworking industry dead until the winter.

Drain the pool. Dig down next to it, make a smallish room, and drain said pool into the room. TaDa! you have your anvil back.
It's late. I totally didn't think of that.

Bituminous coal and it's like are plentiful. I just use coal fires in my forges. Magma is for drowning dudes in.

Righty-ho. Upon consideration, fossils in DF is rather silly. They're in.
Also, labcoats? I am jealous that I didn't think of it myself.
I'll get to work on compiling these into one folder and uploading it to DFFD, but I've never worked with custom buildings or reactions, so it'd be helpful if someone could give me the format for the beginning bits of those.

You ever just have fun with modding? Marshmallow mountains? Rivers of hot fudge? Teddy bears as weapons, which you then use as an Adventurer to beat up actual bears? Soda rather than alcohol? Christopher Walken?

Forget that last one.

Anyway, S.L.A.D.E is a project that anyone can contribute to, it's aim being to have a ramshackle mountain made of oddness and wacky.
Perhaps the most fun part is trying to be strange in Dwarf Fortress.

So far I have one weapon and two new rocks (the idea for one of which I completely stole). That's where you come in. My imagination and modding skill stretches only so far. I'm not asking a lot. If you have an idea and the skill to execute it, post your product, and it will be added to the big gooey pile o' fun. If you have an idea you can't pull off, drop it off for more experienced modders to try out. Got the skills but not the ideas? I refer you to the previously mentioned idea-machines without the aforementioned skills?
Don't have ideas OR skill? That doesn't mean you can sit back and enjoy the Fun.
