General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Agh people confusing deformable terrain with voxels :<

I know it's not like "oh noooo the world is ending" but then they try and argue instead of say, looking it up, and that's the part that frustrates me.

I don't think we'd have to make a gold server. You can make a server with a password easily, and public servers can be modded. That way if any B12'ers don't own KAG but want to drop in, they could.

Is replacing damaged doors with your own no longer possible? I haven't been able to for a while, but I didn't see anything in any patch notes. Really, it would be okay if you couldn't, because nobody ever knew that you could :T

Also I figured out something neat :D If you have a damaged team bridge (that belongs to your team), you can place backwall behind it and it will be repaired. It needs to be your team bridge originally; if you're blue and fix a red team bridge this way, it will be red.

Bit late, but a couple pages back someone was asking about Diablo 3 vs. Path of Exile?

PoE feels much more faithful to D2 than D3 is, oddly enough. I haven't played as much of PoE as I have of D3, because it lags more, but I can tell already that it's a game I'm going to spend a lot of time in.

Looking at the website, the devs seem really cool; they either know their stuff, or are not afraid to learn it, rather than sticking with tried-and-true. A great example is the bartering system. By cutting gold out of some transactions, they've created a new sort of economy for their game, and reading their articles on it was very cool.

Like most team-based games, kdr is fairly meaningless in terms of indicating how much someone contributes.

Does anyone else enjoy playing as a sort of combat engineer, going in with the knights to dig away the foundations of enemy structures and break their traps, as opposed to building back at home?

I feel like I'm posting way too much ;_; I'm normally pretty inactive.

That said, forward teams that consist of only knights are often rendered useless by defensive structures. Having a builder up front is usually necessary to make any progress. Also it's a lot of fun to wreck their towers :p

35
Don't worry about kdr's. Not only are they horribly bugged, they really don't matter.

If you're a knight it's not entirely about killing people. Sometimes you need to protect archers, or just hold off enemies for a few seconds.

If you're a builder, you should be repairing structures as well as making new ones; the builders that sit in the back mining all game are as good as afk, even if they have a huge score.

If you're an archer, sometimes you can make a huge difference by climbing onto an enemy structure. From there you can shoot builders, unprotected workshops/outposts/catas, and even unprotected knights or other archers. Don't be afraid to run away, though; agility is a great asset.

Edit: extra builder stuff

In the beginning of the game builder is extremely important, especially in maps with a middle hill. By capturing that, your team benefits greatly. In one game with a hill I ran out into the middle and place two stone blocks, which gave my team time to get up the hill while their team floundered at the bottom.

In the awesome game that just took place, our tower withstood the test of time very well. I think it's because of the outpost being very close, so builders could easily get to the tower, and we had several dedicated builders that kept the tower together with chicken-wire and duct tape :p

ANYWAYS, epic finish on a 1-hour game just now. We had gradually pushed the Reds back farther and farther, until it came to a small canyon with towers on both sides. The bloodshed was absurd; if we hadn't had Unlimited lives, the game would have ended right there. Eventually we shattered Red's tower; all that was left was hastily erected defenses overlooking the canyon, and a small courtyard between that and their spawn building. Still, they fought valiantly, and the battle raged as we tried to blow apart the tower, and dig under their base. I got several bombs and blew a hole through the bottom of the courtyard just as someone bombjumped in through a hole in their building's roof, and took the flag. The blue with the flag jumped through the now gaping hole and ran like hell; we had 2 minutes to get the flag back to the base. Red sallied forth one last time, hoping beyond hope to stop the ringbearer's flagbearer's inexorable march towards Mt. Doom the spawn tent. And the Blue Army met them on the battlefield, and much blood was shed. We captured the flag with around 30 seconds left on the clock.

And this was a public server :p the server was not without its idiots, but there was little they could do to detract from the moment.

Edit: Re: what I build/what my team builds

I think he's just pointing out that at least lately, there's been a large influx of new builders, who are struggling to understand that you're supposed to build to last for more than ten seconds, if you have any time at all. Structures do degenerate over time, but often no one bothers to repair them. I find myself taking up the hammer to fix gaping holes in our defenses quite often. However, I never bother gathering resources by mining/chopping wood. If you're sort of brave, you can run in the battlefield; oftentimes, stone and wood litter the ground, with gold scattered in between. All in all, people could do more to help out; as a knight, I always pick up everything and give building supplies to builders who look like they know what they're doing, and arrows to archers with good aim.

I went to create a new account and found out that my email was already taken. So, I tried to log in using my email and a likely password, and it worked! I must have made an account a long time ago. So I spose I'm in the closed beta now :o

From Transformice earlier tonight:

Ochita: We really are soulmates, Leafsnail
Ochita: B-but it's not like I like you, B-Baka!
Leafsnail: Suddenly Tsunderechita?

Was a good time y'all. We should do it again. Max was pretty handy with his Ratapults, and I was a pretty masterful planker.

EDIT: It's a long video, but the unedited footage is here. Complete with all the best worst music I could dredge up from my hard drive.

Well damn, somehow I didn't hear about that! It's been forever since I played Transformice, but I used to quite a lot. In fact, last time I got on everyone I had ever friended was gone. I left a goodbye note and haven't touched it since... well, what can you do? *shrug*

I feel like all my problems are in my head. Which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean that they're constantly following me; I've been losing sleep, unable to concentrate on anything, angry and occasionally tearful for no reason, etc.

I can think all I want but if I don't take action, it's all meaningless.

I'm in as well, I guess. The last giveaway interested me enough to get the demo, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is very generous of you (and the developer).

Got internet back today, and after playing Spiral Knights with Ochi, I downloaded the expansion for Diablo II, Lord of Destruction.

Ended up playing D2 for 6 or 7 hours.

Notch tweeted about this saying how great it looked, fyi.

Ugh. Anytime Notch tweets about a game, the rabid fan part of the MC community jumps all over it, whether to tear it apart or just make the community worse via their presence.

Oh my god, Dragon's Dogma. So cool.

It's like Capcom took all my dreams for what Dragon Age 2 should have been, and what Skyrim could have been, sprinkled some Shadow of the Colossus on top, and came up with this amazing, deep, gritty, high fantasy squad-based tactical action RPG. This game looks incredible. Despite aiming for consoles only, after tons of pressure they hinted at doing a PC release too.

Dude... I want this game so bad.

Having played the (rather limited) demo, I will say that I want this badly as well.

Also the jobs/abilities stuff reminds me of FFV :D
