I wasn't sure if upright spikes in a multi-z pit worked differently.. I've already churned out a bunch of glass spikes (again, short on materials here) for the pit, I'll see how it goes. :)  I'll have real traps later on in case it doesn't work out.

Yeah.. heh. I haven't done any exploratory mining in the new version. I haven't had to.

Just the process of digging out a small fort gives me tones of stone and ore of all different types.

Ok, I was reading about dead pets and babies and stuff, I thought training weapons couldn't hurt but I guess a huge wooden pole being jammed through your body doesn't need a point on it to do damage. :D

I'm still having this issue. In my current fort, 3 owned cats all died at the same time. I unforbid the corpses (since auto-forbid everything is on as I'll be turning on invaders soon)

Results: 1 cat properly buried, 2 in the refuse pile.



I tried dumping, undumping, forbidding, pausing, unforbidding, etc. Nothing worked. I uploaded my save to DFFD and posted the link in the bug tracker entry for it. Not sure if the saves help or not but if they do it may be worth it to zip up your save, upload it, and add it to the bug report. http://bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=790

Started my first "now I know how most of DF2010 works" fort last night. So far the moat is dug and filled, irrigation is up, farming is up, booze making is working, bedrooms are being dug - and no one has died. Something must be wrong.

It might be sending the trigger too quickly. Floodgates have a bit of a lag time to them. You may also need to use levers to initialize the system, I had a cistern where I had to do that but afterwards everything worked okay.

Some of the long-standing bugs in the new version are starting to get to me. I have a fort that seems to have all of them at once. (Search for "Sealances" on DFFD) I was thinking about going back to the old version for a bit but I remember in that one it was nearly impossible to get metals other than from the goblin caravan.

I wonder if dwarfs are adopting pets properly. I set some vermin pets as available but nobody has claimed them. I know not everyone likes vermin but I have a bit of a variety, and 120+ dwarfs. Someone should like rats or birds or whatever I have.

If they have made a bunch of masterwork items, it upsets them less. Try having them make more cages. Also it sounds scary but double check their actual happiness level, it may not be all that low.

It seems like plant and tree growth is controlled by a slow, simplified version of Conway's Game Of Life. I can't plant natural plants and trees to test any patterns, but I've noticed they rarely grow too close to each other, and if they do, they seem to die off faster.

Yeah maybe it should just be for 5 years or so. Enough time that some sieges and FBs can happen but not so long it takes forever.

Wait...  for the spike pit, would green glass or wood be okay to use for the spikes? I have plenty of wood and green glass, and a bit of iron but not enough to have both traps and equipment made out of it. I'd prefer to use the common materials when possible for the traps.

Edit: And would it be okay to use training weapons for the "dodge" traps?
