Do you work in a computer store in the ghetto too?

I'm loving it here, it is totally awesome hearing adults cry about a repair cost that is 150$ cheaper than our competitors. Almost as awesome as all the ghetto neighborhood kids thinking the store is some kind of playground. Nothing has been stolen yet but it's only a matter of time.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

My spiral fort is doing well but I have way too many dwarfs (was trying to get a noble and the economy going)  I think it's time to outfit some military and turn invaders on. :D

Well, yes, if I could claim crap like those damn shirts that dwarves just drop in the middle of the hallways

I had this problem, check their room and look in their containers and cabinets and see if they are full. If so, add another container or cabinet. The only messy rooms I get now are where folks have too many items and not enough containers, or rooms that have multiple room designations overlapping the containers. (I made a large children's room/daycare with multiple beds and containers, but the kids don't use them apparently due to overlapping designations, and instead just toss their stuff on the floor, but I actually like how that looks for the children's room.)

If you have a dwarf or two with just way too much stuff, you can always build them a storage room. 1 bed or assignable room object, and then a dozen containers. :D

I wouldn't mind seeing some basic mods included. Nothing world-changing, but things like the display case have worked out really well for me. :)

Oh wow they OCD'd themselves to death.

The only thing I can think of, besides stuff others have already mentioned, is if a well component is marked forbidden or marked for dumping.

I wonder what happens when you play a fort for a hundred years. Nothing is having babies except inside your fort. I wonder if all the men will drop dead of old age and that will be it for them.

I did this, kinda. I started a fort where the parent civ was dead. No immigrants apart from the first year's waves. Everything after that was children growing up. I ran the fort for 25-30 years, though with invaders disabled.

I stopped playing that one after I messed up a waterfall and hurt a few dwarfs in a cave in. The lack of trade caravans from anyone (dwarfs were dead but humans were nearby) made it too boring to continue, plus my screw up wounded the best miners. Skill rust had made my doctors imbeciles by then so they were goners.

Huge numbers of kids with few adults to look after them and produce food and drink leads to some huge problems. Be prepared for that if you decide to try one of those forts.

DF Suggestions / Re: Encrust with...

I understand I can use burrows and stockpiles and carefully crafted production orders to achieve the same thing.

But we already have the basic choices with gems. It should be relatively easy to add it to the other encrusting options as well. (Note the use of the word relatively, obviously I don't expect a magic wand to be waved and the options added instantly, bug-free.)

The options being on shells and bones and such wouldn't seem to hurt anyone's play style. No one has mentioned any way it could, so far. At worst, if someone wanted to encrust everything with everything, they would have to add a few more work orders set on repeat. Encrusting options for all materials could only help players, not hinder them.

I really wish we could select specific items for decoration.

I'd like to see that too. :)

It also doesn't stop the "closest first" thing where the dwarf in the dining room who responds to the job will grab a stack of ammo or a sock or whatever rather than the furniture that I want encrusted.  It should be a relatively easy option to add, since it already exists for gem encrusting.

The "demo" is a guest pass. Ask someone who bought a boxed copy for a guest pass, and you will receive a 7 hour "demo."

It's a good start but they need a real demo, one that anyone can download. They should include the tutorials, because, jesus tapdancing christ they're TUTORIALS, and 3-4 missions from the game, or some custom demo missions, and maybe if they are feeling generous a single multiplayer map, and you'd have a meaty, juicy demo, with rich zesty sauce.

I like the idea but there would need to be a reasonable way to counter it.

DF Suggestions / Encrust with...

I'm sure this has come up before, but I'd love to see expanded encrusting options for bones, shells, etc like gems have. With gems, I can choose to encrust furniture, finished goods, or ammo, but with all the other encrusting options it doesn't let me choose.

I always set up small pools of 2/7 water in front of my entrances. Should wash off all contaminents als long as you flush it regularly.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I should set up an emergency chemical shower or two...

Does poison dilute, ever? Or does a single drop contaminate an entire water source?

Why is it OK to mention breasts but not a penis? Or dick, schlong, rod, twig & berries, cock, etc.

Well, now nobody can say you don't know dick.

Serious answer to OP: You can mod them in if you want. The damage modeling seems to do okay without them though. It's not really necessary. DF doesn't model every organ and muscle either, only certain major ones.

If they are putting out a playable demo, I'll certainly give it a shot.
it was called the beta you are late.

No, beta is called beta, a demo is a demo of the retail game with all the bugs that would cause slowness presumably fixed. :D

Game companies need to get back in the habit of releasing demos, if only to prove that their games will run on a person's computer. (Or run at all... Rockstar, I'm looking at you...)

The buddy key thing is a reasonable demo but hopefully they will get a real demo made soon, one that anyone can download.
