Ug the IC forums are nearly as bad as the MC ones.

Quick rundown on the issue:
1) Even in the United Corporate States of America (R), interoperability is a legally protected ground.
2) So-called "licenses" on Minecraft mods are completely void and not worth the bytes they take up in storage.
End of story.

If a modder complains to you about an interoperability mod, just say "What ya gonna do? Can't shut me down!"
Yes, you will get into a PR war with the fanboys and fangirls. Yes, they will threaten lawsuits. The modder might even do so if they are rich and stupid enough. Even if somebody actually tried, not in a million years would any judge with half a brain rule against you, even if the fanboy/fangirl/modder actually FOUND who you really are.

Really, Eloraam's dislike of add-ons isn't as irrational and petty as the old BTW incident -- or some of the sentiments I saw on the IC2 fora/etc.
I think Eloraam's attitude is one of "Don't fork it till 1.0!" She is afraid (maybe justly) that addons/forks of RP will lead to:
a) community fragmentatiion
b) rage when a RP update breaks everything

Considering that she pioneered Forge, and that there are two outstanding examples I know of where express permission for interlinking has been given (Thaumcraft 2 and Wireless Redstone Chickenbones' Edition), she doesn't seem as pigheaded as half the Minecraft modders I see out there.
(NO! MY RECOMPILED MOJANG LIBRARY! IT ILEEGEAL TO STEEL MY COPYRIGHT! NO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR U!) <--average MC modder
(I don't want forks or addons yet, it's not finished!) <--Eloraam

Yes, annoying, but a far better attitude than that of the rest.

Wait... is that... fire?

...REAL fire?

‼YAY‼

Have some ‼houses‼! And some ‼airships‼! And some...

...Not sure what I'll use it for, but now we once again have a proper dose of ‼FUN‼ in Minecraft. I like this new guy.

Oh, and this is actually pretty accurate to how "civilized" people tend to use rainforest/"jungle". For the next ten years or so, that will be pretty good farmland.

Maybe fire spread should have a humidity-based delay?

I would imagine that having a heat system and modular buildings using heat/liquids/gasses would mean that magma forges are automatically a possibility. Though you might use a hot/cold water system to heat and cool metal in a steampunk magma forge. Water spray to quench, compressed air to cool, 1000 degree steam to heat?
Then again, direct conduction heating sounds safer and more efficient than gas-heating. What would one use for the surface though?

A pneumatics/hydraulics system would be useful for all kinds of things. Cannons, industry...

Are you planning on simulating water knock/steam hammer? The phenomena where condensation in a pipe is accelerated by pressure buildup behind it like a bullet in a gun, causing noise and possibly damage to corners at the ends of straightaways? Probably not worth simulating, and potentially very annoying, but just brainstorming.

I can see combining this with RedPower making some pretty awesome airships. Pity Redpower can't rotate things. I'd settle for 90 degree turns with estimated collision.

EDIT: Oh, I just thought of something. Are Railcraft coke ovens/blast furnaces movable by frames? If not, that might be a problem with moving multi-tile machinery: evry tile needs to be accessable. Actually, thinking about it, even if the blocks are seperate entities, a coke oven should still be movable, but needs two faces and a ring around the middle covered in frames, rendering piping complicated.

Oooh, a spindash sounds interesting for a shooter. Like for avoiding slow-moving attacks.

I'm imagining that you could probably just use a standard rotary shaft lifting mechanism and use a handcrank to supply a trickle of power to it.

...Probably want to upgrade to a steam hammer as soon as possible, though that would either need very-high-flow, medium-high pressure steam (direct pneumatic hammering, jackhammer style) or extreme pressure steam (lift huge weight->valves open->drop->slam!)

So am I correct in thinking that an example plate press would include:
An anvil/work table
A hammer head (this is what makes the reactions happen, but it has to be driven downward by other machines)
A drop weight
A piston
An "regulator valve" (if pressure goes above X, open until pressure drops below Y)
A T-connector

As steam pipes in it goes to the piston and valve through the T-connector. The valve's X pressure is set extremely high, and the Y is set extremely low.
The piston pushes upward, lifting the hammer and weight and jamming at the top of the stroke. The pressure redlines above X. The valve opens and all pressure is lost to the atmosphere. The weight slams the hammer head down on the work piece as pressure falls below Y, advancing the crafting by an amount based on the head velocity. The cycle continues.

EDIT: Please make industrial machinery dangerous. We want to weaponize it!

I think I just fell in love...

...Maybe not, but this is exactly what I wished other technical mods did. Made machines big and modular, doing as much in-world as possible and as little with the "furnace interface cubes" as possible.

My factories NEED giant steam pistons and racks of material flying by overhead! They need cauldrons of molten metal suspended from the ceiling and hissing valves on the walls!

Oh man that sounds sweet. So something like water near magma/fire/furnace/other "heat generator"  boils and trys to force itself elsewhere, through pipes if necessary, pipes can be attached to pistons/valves/turbines, turbines work like Thaumcraft Thaumic generators to power machinery?

Or something even more awesome? This sounds exactly like my kind of mod.

Yes. They are a standard inventory like a chest but they output automatically.

They can be used for some resarchable items. They also can give some recipes when researched.

Basically, they become REALLY useful for heavy research/enchanting once you get the right recipe.

It's not diamond. It's "battery drains marginally instead of taking damage", at least with a full suit. I don't think anything can penetrate it without draining the whole massive battery, but my knowledge may be obsolete.

We still have a 386 in the basement. It still (mostly) works, last time I checked.

The ironic thing? This is a desktop.

Yes I use five-year-old equipment. The reason: it's free. All the parts that break I replace with similarly-old parts salvaged from junked computers.
Going to University soon, will be borrowing father's backup laptop. Probably much more capable than my PC.

Thats with it off. And everything else. And all draw distances and LODs minimized. And resolution minimized.

Then again, this computer has a single-core (hyperthreaded) [that's some kind of primitive multitasking support making it show up as 2 cores, right?] Pentium 4 processor and 2Gb RAM and a Radeon X300 I think. It... can't really run anything that comes out anymore. I was almost surprised I got as far as I did.
