Some say in an ideal society, menial work should be left to machines while humans pursue science, meaning, and intellectual/spiritual discovery.
I disagree. While I think more people will be able to move into science and engineering, I also think that more and more people will be able to move into the arts. It is already evident that we have more people involved in creating art in one form or another than ever before, this can only continue, and to great benefit to mankind. No longer will the only music you hear be the Emperors favorite pianist, now the economy can support a much wider range of tastes.

I think one day we will reach a point where we can afford two types of people, those who choose to devote their life to creating something, be it scientific knowledge or entertainment, and those that get to enjoy their lives consuming it.

Is this one of those conversations Japa doesn't want to see? Because seriously, you don't mess with the Japa.

Na, our government would never do that! They would rather privatize the tax department, ensuring the wealthy never have to pay...

I know, it sounds crazy, but it is actually happening.

I'm pretty sure that in conservative fantasy America, instead of having a tax rate based on your income at all, they just have an annual fee that everybody has to pay regardless of their ability to pay it.

Today in: Max Whites war on the war on refugees.
Australia says sorry for illegally breaching Indonesians boarders, but don't worry, it wasn't the governments fault! Apparently the crew was just incompetent! You know, the same crew we have been reassured over and over are highly trained professionals and can be trusted to act in an ethical way even when witnesses say otherwise? Yea, those guys.
In the mean time, it has been confirmed that the Australian Navy has procured twelve large, solid hull life boats. Leaks suggest these boats are going to be supplied to crew of peoples smuggler vessels whose boats are unseaworthy so we can safely escort them to Indonesia, an highly illegal act under Indonesian law. No Australia, you are the people smugglers.

In the meantime, four refugees have attempted suicide while others resort to self harm, Morrison continues to refuse to comment on the basis that it will shit all over his reputation we don't need to know.

Bollocks, no idea what to say about this.

I guess you could keep trying to convince her.
I ended up contacting her mother and telling her why she needs to go to the police and how they can help her. I'm not sure if they will go through with all charges, some things are pretty hard to go through with, but to my understanding they are back in their home, and he is somewhere else... I'm operating on the end of a string here and not hearing much, but things are looking a little better.

Want to hear Bryan Fischer talk about transgendered people and science? Of course you do.

And let's not forget that the only nation on this planet that has managed to hold on to its colonial territories is - you guessed it - Russia!
So I guess Greenland just doesn't matter anymore.  :P
They always forget Greenland...

A friend of mine is in serious trouble. Apparently her mothers boyfriend, who they were both living with, is somewhat of a bastard. She didn't want to state outright, but I get the strong impression she suffered some form of sexual abuse, but either way it is very clear several forms of abuse happened. This boyfriend and her mother had some sort of argument and he kicked them both out, so now they are living in a womans shelter.
She told me about this today during my break when she came into work to tell our manager that she wouldn't be able to come in for a while. She is actually from Malaysia and apparently came here when something similar happened with her biological father. I spent a good half hour trying to convince her to go talk to the police, but she doesn't seem to think they will help. Can't blame her, coming from Malaysia I can see why she would have that impression of law enforcement, but over here there is a lot in her favor right now that she should be using right now...

I'm too fucking sober for this.

Remember, it's intolerant to be opposed to limiting people's civil rights and actively debasing them.
You say that, but then what constitutes a civil right is up for debate.
After all, how is that fire arms thing working out for you?

645
See, that's the knife edge.

Nobody should force them NOT to vote, they should CHOOSE not to vote, having determined themselves unsuitable to vote impartially.

But that's the rub-- incompetent people are notoriously bad at determining competency. :)
So you accept that politicians have the right to vote when they feel needed, and the right to not like homosexuality, but choosing to vote on a law that relates to homosexuality is incompetence.
Remember that politicians are public servants, they are there to work for you. You are their employer. When an employee shows incompetence, being unhappy with that isn't being intolerant, it is an assessment. As such, people aren't committing the logical fallacy of being intolerant of intolerance, they are giving a poor performance review.
