I have noticed that with the butchery, but I don't really care: I'm not sure what clutter does.
It slows down the production speed of the cluttered workshop. A pink *cluttered* workshop may even lead the dwarves to abandon tasks scheduled at that workshop, until some of the clutter has been removed.

Such a single tick can take quite a while though, depending on what exactly you're doing. Up to a few minutes, if I recall correctly.

Nephews marry their aunts, nieces their uncles. This is quite funny actually, because the relationship will still show the spouse as "aunt/uncle" in one direction, and as "husband/wife" in the other. Makes it a bit difficult to find the married couples (in the case that you are like me and like to give them a common name or number)

Deadly desert rain has been mostly fixed.
No, it still occurs, if you go for the *real* scorching areas. Those with yellow "No Trade" marks for all civilisations. You have to tweak the temperature maximum in the advanced world gen parameters to hit these sorts of "scorching" - but oh yes, it still exists.

This depends on how scorching your map really is. "Scorching" covers quite a huge continuum of temperatures, just as "Freezing" does.

If your dwarves tend to melt when they're outside and when it rains (does it rain in the desert?), then the invaders will do the same.

If your dwarves can run around outside during rain, then the invaders will be bored, but fine.

... No, really, you don't need to take special care to prepare your fort at embark, take what you like where you like...
No, really. You absolutely have to spaz out on the embark screen and you must find the perfect spot and the perfect point distribution for your very first fortress. Else you'll be doomed and you'll fail before summer arrives! REALLY!

And don't forget to give every dwarf exactly the skills that his preferences call for! You must micromanage everything completely right from the very start!

The best way to avoid a catsplosion is to only have 1 female cat around. And to remove the [ADOPTS_OWNER] tag from them in the raws.

Also, vermin corpses don't cause miasma.

I had it at 750 recently, but that's a bit too abundant, really. On the other hand, I like the fact that I've got 15k amethysts and enough copper+gold to make all the furniture in rose gold - on a 2x2 embark.

how to irrigate farms without flooding the fort. Even tried flooding a 2x2 area with pond water and draining it.
Unless you're not on soil, you don't have to irrigate to farm anymore. That irrigation age ended at around version .18 or so.

But I am not trying to stop you from doing exciting flooding experiments with your fortress at all! Go on and keep flooding them. ;)

If you want to farm your plump helmets on soil, you don't need to irrigate anymore. You only need to do some minor flooding if you want to have the farming plot further down, on rock surfaces.

That's what I meant with "age of irrigation gone".
