have no idea how to sleep faster. but afaik you dont really need to.

you dont need food and water in current version just go out to global map and make 1 step. you also cure everything.

yes items value would be great.

I think its good to finally get rid of health bar.
no diseases afaik.

im not sure about that. but try 'A'ttack while you 1 pace away from enemy.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Really Basic Adventuring Questions
« on: March 04, 2007, 08:42:00 pm »
I got some questions too:
Where do i find undeads? I cleansed all the dungeons i found. But there is only goblins cyclops and kobolds.
My char is ultra-mighty and extremely tough and agile. But criminal from very start of the game(i was tryin to trade but they attacked me so i end killing everybody and took set of "=plate armors="). What else i can do in game?

I hang with elven swordsgirl. And she goes prone all the time and stands up. Maybe she need to drink/eat or something?

She is good at killing goblins with wooden sword. But how do i equip her with some **uber-twohander**? Is there way to give away items like in ADOM?

I currently use twohanded great axe and shield, does it decrease damage or something?

Actually, no. Chain mail is useless without some kind of padding underneath. The poor man would go clothes -> thick cloth armor made of many layers of cloth sewn together -> chain. A knight, however, was rich, and could afford clothes -> plate (for padding) -> chain -> tabard with family crest/coat of arms.</STRONG>

If you dont know stuff - listen. I didn't ever say that somebody wears chain on naked body. It was common to wear chain over studded leather or some cloth dress(actually thick woolen armor you speak of was replaced with thinner and effective leather) and helmet over some fur or wool/multilayer cloth cap. There is possible some padding but nobody was using chain over solid plate armor. Its a nonsense.
Go enlighten yourself somewhere.

I tell you what. Even a full suit of plate had gaps and openings at the articulations, such as the arm pit or the inside of the elbow; else the wearer would be unable to move. So those gaps were covered with mail(or not). But if you wear chain OVER plate it would be quite pointless since its much easier to penetrate while its freely dangling over your plate armor.

However since end of XV full plate armor was used without chainmail. Thats because guns and crossbows became more powerful and popular and only 25kg plate could stop a bullet or bolt of that time and additional 8 kilo of chain would be too much. In XVI muskets were invented. They were able to penetrate plate armor at distance 240m. Also light agile fighters with swords designed specially to thrust and abuse armor gaps became effective way to deal with slow fully armored guys. So it was the end of medieval armor as we know it(along with so-called "middle ages").

Man this is the way armor was used - plate over chain(or just chain). Read a books or something. Nobody wears plate armor over naked body, except heroes of diablo, oblivion and other arcade games.

A: So i will actually see the river on local maps?

B: How can you know? Ok a function which would fill a waterskin in all places where we can drink "from ground" its maybe even 5 minutes to do.
By the way its became not necessary because i discovered other way - instead of drinking you can go to wilderness map and back. Thristy status goes away. Along with wounds and other. But lost eyes don't reappear =)

I was about to create another thread about waterskin and water problem and i would if its wasn't on 1st page.

But i actually want to know other thing why when i enter river location from map i can't see a river? There is only little dirty swamps or something. In fortress mode there is always a river with clean water.

I think if that makes people create threads over and over maybe you should raise its priority a little. It's really 3 minutes of work for you and it will save forum from spam      :).

For me hardest to find was a dragon. I scanned whole caverns 2 times and no luck.
I made about 10 other quests, cleared couple of goblin forts and decided to go back to dragon hunt.
While searching for him in labyrinth, I suddedntly got the message about dragon scorching some montain goat. That sneaky lizard was outside all the time.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Building wells below water level

I always make wells below river level so i can use them whole year.

something like that:

code:

-1 level of river:
1)
~~~~~~~         ====####
~~~~~~~         =====..#
~~~~~~~===============.. < Well Room
~~~~~~~         =====..#
~River~         ====####
~~~~~~~
2)
~~~~~~~         ~~~#####
~~~~~~~         ~~~#+..#
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#+o.. < Well Room
~~~~~~~         ~~~#+..#
~River~         ~~~#####
~~~~~~~
       ^Channel ^Reservoir

# - wall
o - well
+ - floor constructed over channel
. - normal floor
~ - water
= - dry channel

Once i made a fortress in goblin fort. There was a 4 buildings and a temple full of goblins. They never attack or do something, i trained a group of seven crossbowmen with wardogs(equipped only with wooden shields, crossbows and bolts) and cleared all the place. 2 dwarves were killed by goblins. One dwarf gone berserk and killed rest of the squad. Then he killed every dwarf in my fortress(10). Later I found him with my adventurer:
code:
The flying +®-Steel bolt-Ї+ strikes The dwarf Marksdwarf in the head!
It is pierced through entirely!
Vab“k Vellorbam Ilasiz, dwarf Marksdwarf has been shot and killed.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The worst artifact ever
« on: April 10, 2008, 02:15:00 am »
My very first artifact in DF was Ostotam, a Copper sarcophagus(i checked gamelog.txt). It was about ~36k i think. I made a mausoleum for the baron out of it, but sunavubitch never died.

Only useful artifact i've created was an iron crossbow. My minotaur adventurer used it(mostly as a hammer) to exterminate elves.
