Hey, do Megabeasts and Clowns fight one another? I just got a megabeast and I'm not sure if I should fight it right now or try to catch it for use later.

now I got something wierd going on right now. for a whole season now, I've been trying to get my countess to meet with the human diplomat(they're cool and bring some good stuff on occasion) and it says that she's conducting the meeting, but nothing is happening(as in I'm not getting the messages saying "nice place you got here" etc) and not only that but she's doing it in the training room, not in her room(burrowing doesn't move her at all for some reason) there are only 1 thing that i might explain this and thats that her room isn't up to snuff and she won't conduct the meeting in there. is my guess right?

Yeah, wooden shields block just as often as any other material, so it really doesn't matter I killed about 150 trees for my carpenter to make sure that I would have high quality shields for all my troops for a long long time, Quality does matter.  The only reason I would use steel shields is if you want to make the ultimate combat junkie and you want them to shield bash with a heavier object.  Since it seems pretty easy to get a dwarf to pick up a weapon for each hand plus a shield, you might end up with a situation where your dwarf latches onto a goblin's throat with her teeth shaking him around while repeatedly stabbing him in the gut with two swords and breaking his hands and feet with her shield.  But even with that consideration, I rarely see my completely insane dwarf I described above going for a shield bash anywhere thats armored and having that even be a factor, but she does love disarming them pretty early with that tactic.

Whats crazy is after doing all that, she still finishes them off 95% of the time by punching them directly in the brain through armor.  I guess they don't have enough time to bleed to death before she gets tired of them.

edit:ninja'd lol

Thanks for that, I've mangaged to stop my smiths from making the shields and are now working on the chainmail.

EDIT: sorry again, but is an artifact Bone helm better than a regular steel Helm? just got a mood and there's a good chance the dorf might make a helm.

EDIT: Also, how many bars of Steel would I need to arm and armor a Dorf in head to toe steel? is it something like 7 bars?(1 for weapon, 1 for the helm, 1 for breastplate, 1 for gauntlets, 1 for greaves, 1 for high boots, and 1 for the shield right?)

Material doesn't really matter for the shield, so you could skip that.  Helm, mail shirt, breastplate, gauntlets, greaves, high boots, weapon = 7 bars.  Make the shields out of wood or whatever you have good skill working with.  Unless, you know, it's a fashion thing....

Yeah, its kinda a fashion thing. but really material doesn't matter with shield? So wood is just as good as steel or bone?

Bug: All metalworking requires one bar of material.

good to know that bug is still working. without it, I woun't even try to outfit anyone in steel. I'l just steal the iron stuff from goblins and use that

I think breastplates may be three bars each; they seem to be eating up my steel supply at that rate, anyway.

Odd, I have a guy working on a breastplate right this moment, and he's only using 1 bar of steel. are you sure its not because of something else?

just got my second Forgotten Beast just now. "The Forgotten Beast Lural Sitsuoxut has come! A gigantic feathered Pterosaur. It has large mandibles and it has a bloated body. Its orange feathers are long and narrow. Beware its poisonous vapors!" is the message I got. does that mean that this has a dust attack and if so, any advice for if I decide to take it on?(my caverns are blocked off atm since I don't have a military right now)

Hey, just wondering, what happens if you kill the leader of a civ that's attacking you? Do they stop attacking or do they lessen there attacks?(I don't think they'll stop attacking, but never hurts to ask)

Sorry another question, this time about room value. My Baroness just got upgraded to a Duchess, so now she needs better rooms. unfortunately her room is somewhat small and expanding her room to make it bigger is a problem since most of the walls have masterwork carvings in them. So I was wondering, is it possible to give her another room and decorate it, satisfying the new room requirements? I ask this because she still had her old rooms, and when the upgrade came, I carved her old rooms and they counted towards the value of the bedroom requirement.

Having military dwarves as hunters, woodcutters, or miners will cause uniform inconsistancies. Every time you change tham from one to another, they'll drop their weapon and go grab a new one.

Oh really? So if say I made them hunt with the same weapon they'll just drop it and get a copy of the same thing when they switch? What about if they're attached to a weapon, will they drop that as well?

Would it be a good idea to have soldiers be hunters when inactive? I'm thinking of doing that after I got everyone in armed and armored(which is gonna take forever) so they can still fight off local wildlife that always interrupt hauling operations on the surface/underground even during off duty.

Sorry, but I've just noticed something odd that going on in my fort. Its nothing life threatening, but my Dorfs keep leaving their clothes all over the place and they're not picking them up. Its odd too, the clothing for the most part is perfectly fine. I even just got some migrants just now, and I noticed that one of them dropped some cloths on its way to my fort. Any ideas?
Magma.

Or build bedrooms with a cabinet and container for each of them.

I have, and yet they still leave cloths around. All my rooms are 2x3 and all have a bed, a coffer, and a cabinet.
