DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Dwarfin Awards

Crossbow, quiver full of bolts, mountain titan, use crossbow as melee weapon.

I had a dwarf who did this in early 2010, only it was just against a minor ambush.  He wasn't killed outright, but he was injured and retired to bed.  This was the hermit in what I was trying to make a hermit fort, only I was constantly drowning in immigrants, whose only task was to dispose of the crap left behind by the previous wave.  I'd finally finished an atom smasher to remove them cleanly, and decided I would allow one of them to live to care for the injured dwarf.  "Okay, whichever one of you volunteers to come out and pull the lever gets to live."  One of them ran out, pulled the lever, and ran back in just in time to be crushed with the rest.  Smooth.

Pretty sure he did this just to spite you.

"It menaces with spikes of *", yes.
"Strike the earth"
The answer is magma.
Pull the lever.

- Rith Lolorngotol, Weaver and Ex-Speardwarf

I know you can't read this, so I'm going to get one of the doctors to read it out to you, in hope that it manages to pierce your think skull. While we are all incredibly grateful for your help in the defence of the fortress, you have been in a coma for two whole years. And for what? Massive head trauma? Missing torso? No! Your left foot is cut open! That's it!

COME ON MAN! One of your comrades had both his hands cut open, and just like you he got no treatment from the embarrassments that are the medical team. But did he stay in bed? No! He got up and kept trying to move things until his hands had healed! He's now right back in the military, taking YOUR place!

Again, we appreciate your services. But at this stage it feels like you're deliberately keeping your wound open so you'll be waited on hand and foot! If you are not awake and fully healed by the end of this year, we're just going to wall you in and leave you to die. Then your body shall be unceremoniously thrown on the mountainside, and your name struck from the record.

Hoping you don't wake up, so I can euthanise your lazy arse

Cave-in him into the magma sea!

I usually build down there, with the fortress designed vertically around a shaft (I route a river in it to irrigate or create obsidian).

You know that a mayor can easily be replaced? With a few simple keypresses? And that you don't really have to kill them in response to this, so might as well admit you're doing it for the fun of it? And suck up the consequences rather than act like it's something that happened to you?
......hehehe.

Yeah, he sounds like a chapter from a self-help booklet.

Will try the miniwagons once I get a computer with DF.

If that doesn't work, I will keep the wagon civ.
Hopefully many engraving will describe wagons scuttlings, wagons becoming kings, etc.

I think that drowning it is a good solution if you want to get rid of it. As I see it has no wings so it can't fly. If you can't drown it, try making a cave-in on the tile it occupies.
If you want to keep it, try to trap it. Cage traps are awesome. You can then try to use it to kill goblin sieges you catch in your cages.
Or just keep it sealed in its lair.
I'm pretty sure night creatures are [TRAPAVOID], so you need to cause a cave-in to rocket him into a cage trap.

If they are anything like FBs, you can only web.

Ask and ye shall receive.

This version has customs bindings, is clogged by a save, etc. Still, it works.
And that's the 3rd time someone asks for it :/.

I guess you need X11.
Do you have X11 installed?

edit: either get it from your install dvd or http://roundhere.net/journal/install-x11-on-mac-os-x-10-4-tiger-without-dvd/
