DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblins.
« on: October 15, 2010, 05:18:42 am »
So...

I have about 10 goblins in cage traps.

What do?

I want to release them as more practice for my military, but I don't know how to remove their equipment first.

If that isn't an option, I'll just dump them in magma.

After the military has trained up, I have an hilarious way to deal with those. Simply dump the cage somewhere, and pump a few tiles of magma. Most cage types will be destroyed, unleashing a half-melted goblin. Then you can bet with friends, about who can crawl the farthest before bleeding out.
Unfortunaly, this doesn't generate happy toughts.

Do this work in adventure mode?

I've gotten those workshops you mentioned and the depot.

I suppose I'll gather every single plant on the map while I wait. The extra seeds can't hurt.

Oh yeah, I can't remember if I've made a jewlers. Everyone likes useless cut gems, right?

Don't bother.
Just sell meals and weapons.

Man, I got the feeling you guys are exactly the kind of person who'd be giving all the new kids in school a hard time...

Or have been given a hard time, but I really don't feel this is related.

Now that he gave a link and wrote a bit more politely, I for one am now enclined to go look at the question.

edit: it has been answered anyway. Meh.

What the heck are you guys talking about...?

If I understand correctly, OP is saying "Go answer my question in another board. I won't even bother pasting a link and will burden the wrong forum. HURRY, PEONS."
The second poster, I think is rightfully telling him to go f*ck himself.

Also, it's been reported that this trick only works for the artifact's primary material (i.e. the first ingredient) - for example, you can't use it to add extra gem decorations to a stone object.

Ah, that would explain why he stopped bugging when I redefined burrows.

I'm trying to get everyone to do everything. It's working! Well, it'll confuse me later on of course.

I've gotten a small percentage of mt 10x12 farm planted, and everyone has rooms. The meeting hall/ dining room has plenty of tables/chairs. I'm yet to do much to the barracks, i'd better renovate...

If I can figure out metalsmithing (and it's need for refined coal) then I could even outfit my millitary.

Use Dwarf Therapist. You can make custom professions, check skill levels precisely, sort your dwarves by skill, migrant wave, etc...
Instead of having everyone do everything, what you should do is let the skilled people do their thing and only that, and set the useless dwarves (no skills or skills you don't use) to do everything else.
That way, the master smith keeps smithing while his bitches stockpile his stuff around; you are then far more efficient.

I can't wait to find out what's happening. I figure the child will survive, because this is DF and that's the cruelest outcome.

Heh, my dorfs are hunting vermin for food. Glad to see them doing something at last.
By the why, what does the 'melt' option do?

Mark stuff to be melted.
Tell smelter to melt stuff.
Melting ensues.

If only they could give biting demonstrations at the barracks.

Or solo bite drills.

This is one bit I never understand. Why is the statue masterwork when it must have hundreds of gouges in it? By the end it must look like something off the scrapheap.

It's a masterwork statue of a gouged guy?

So how do I stop after he has used piles of materials? Remove the burrow?

If you remove the burrow he will finish his artifact.
However, if you set a second burrow mid-mood, he can stop bugging and simply wait, it's kind of weird; so be sure to designate one big burrow and then don't touch it until you want him to continue his mood.

Also, he can keep collecting seemingly forever.

Should I scramble the miners as a desperate last line of defense if the FB gets into the Fortress?

It happened to me by messing around with burrows.

edit ^yes

But sometimes it stops working if you redefine the burrow mid-mood, so be careful.
