General Discussion / Re: Tabletop Games Thread

Hey does anyone know any board games where you can design your own spaceship and battle with them?

Eclipse is heavily inspired by Master of Orion and has similar ship building/customization available.

And then there's Galaxy Trucker, but you don't really design a ship so much as you just slam it haphazardly together. It's also not really a PVP thing, you all just ride your ships and see who weathers the dangers of the galaxy best.
God I love galaxy trucker. The mad dash to building something resembling a space-worthy vessel, then having all your crew eaten on the first challenge thing due to poor quarters placement. Good times.

I finally got to my first Terror Mission in Long War, still with starting weapons. I managed to save 4 civilians, but got 0 casualties on my team. All in all it was incredibly intense, and I felt good. It's really a different feel to vanilla, where I pretty much aced my first terror mission. It really felt like a losing battle, which I kinda liked. There was once or twice where I considered evac.

Either that or her dad split her personally and keeps putting her down to make sure they don't re-merge in a desperate attempt to save her life from the fire-curse.
Oh no you don't. Don't start giving Anthony a potentially redeeming ulterior motive. This is my hate-cake, and I will not have it spoiled!
See, I always felt it was quite obvious that Anthony is trying to find a way to "cure" her of her elemental side, also I figured he started the work with Surma.

Sorry... what's in November? Likely date of the next update?
The new xkcd book referenced in the post before his.

If they all feel completely unique I figure its worth it. Also 99 percent sure chaos is in.

Is there any gameplay footage around yet? Or just the cinematic trailer?

Ya, I discovered assaulting small ufo's is just a simple tactics exercise. Secure LZ, secure Perimeter, Synchronized breach. Get enough flanks and close range shots, and the outsider can go down in one turn easy, the trick is not triggering until you're ready. After I had a hard time with my first UFO mission, I can now do small ufos with most/all rookies easy. Keeping in mind I'm still at the Sectoid/Drone stage.
I just love that, unlike the main game, a causality or two isn't terrible and the end of the world for me, hell, look at all those rookies!

I'm finding I'm often using steady aim instead of over-watch when there's no aliens in range. With an average to hit aliens in cover of 20-30 percent at longer ranges, that boost is a real boon.

Got Enemy Within do to amazing generosity! Played two missions in Long War, and it's like a whole new game! I thought people were exaggerating but it was amazing and tense as I cleared room to room and had to think long and hard about where to go just to take out Sectoids. 10/10 would get generous gift again.

Also, F--k Outsiders, seriously. Regenerating buggers.

For those who liked the "Watch the Skies" megagame - the SU&SD guys participated in another game of "Watch the Skies".

Here are the links: 1 2

I would love to take part in something like this. Seems like just my kind of thing. Gotta read up if there's anything similar organized here.
A local group is organizing one of these in my city! I'm signed up to receive a notification when sign ups are open, I'm so stoked.

I make all my rookies red (obviously) and give them the helmet that looked like a paintball helmet. The idea was that until they earn a call sign, they are faceless mooks to me, to be thrown to the slaughter.

I had no idea what ckan was until like, five minutes ago... That seems a lot easier ha.

(there was a part in one article that mentioned that the Orcs will have a mechanic that encourages being at war and fighting to increase unit production, being at peace will incur penalties and animosity)

That's one thing that really interests me about this. Although Total war has always been about war, there's always been sort of 'peace time' whereas warhammer is like 100% war. all the time.

I

Hehe, I am wondering about the possible diplo options for the Orcs. 1. Wagh?, 2.Waagh , 3. WAAAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Fixed a few spelling mistakes.

So, last night right before bed, I went from unmodded KSP to:
KAS
KIS
Joint Reinforcment
KW Rocketry
New Horizons
Kerbal Engineer
Chatterrer
Kerbal Alarm Clock
Kerbal Construction Time

I'm looking forward to giving this a shot tonight.

I just tried Long War for the first time, on Normal difficulty. I lost everyone in the first mission, and it declared that XCOM was shut down. WELP. I guess this explains XCOM 2.

P.S. Not sure why Long War insisted on freezing the game for a couple seconds every turn to save, or why saving caused it to freeze for several seconds...
P.P.S. Not sure where the original XCOM thread went either. It was on the front page yesterday, I thought.
Still on my front page...
