Meta: Jump down, grab Kyle, and run to the medical bay.Doors: locked.
Meta: Stop the bleeding by tearing off the other sleeve of my suit and using that.(...) You somehow manage to wrap up your arm with the sleeve of your jumpsuit. You successfully stop the bleeding, but the pain is blinding.
Meta: Back to plan A! SHOOT IT IN THE HEAD!(...) You misfire and send sparks flying off the wall!
RW: STRIFE! @ SNAKE!(...) You begin foaming at the mouth and knock Monk unconscious with the rod! You then infuse the rod with more NERD RAEG and send it flying around the room!
MC: Go for the optics!
Meta: "NOOOOOOOOO! DIEDIEDIE!" Jump onto the back of the boss and slash it's head off with the mop.(...) You begin shrieking and running around, your flesh burning as you swing your mop wildly! You can't even see what you're doing. Wait... you're a hideously disfigured guy with burnt skin carrying around a mop... where have I seen something like this before? Suddenly, something flies by and lops off both your legs at the knees! AAAAGGGGGHHHH
Meta: Hide for a turn, and tweak the odds.(...) You leap into the air and hide inside the safe, dark tunnel in the ceiling that Xenocalamus fell out of.
HISSSSSSSSSThe upper half of Xenocalamus starts squirming toward (...) Kyle, and bites at him! (...) It picks up Kyle in its jaws, shaking him around violently and tearing the flesh on his back and stomach!
(Almost) no one here is being harsh and sitting on their asses. I'm more than willing to help a beginning programmer, and so is most everyone else here. The problem is that the only reply to any of our comments he's posted so far is this (hidden inside a failquote):Frankly, I'd rather that he try and fail pathetically then have you guys discourage him to never try. The first step to learning something is having impossible dreams. Why not encourage him towards realistic means of accomplishing his goal like I did instead of smugly rubbing it in how much better you are then him when both of you are just sitting on your asses?
This is a great idea. I don't think anyone is actually rubbing it in about how much better they are (except maybe Deon) but everyone, including me, is being harsh and just sitting on their asses, like you said. Having him try and fail is definitely a good solution.
anything else or did you just came to troll on a idea yes an IDEA before you shoot me down completely. I'm not asking for money or any handouts I've not done anything because it's an idea and I thought it was a good ideaNo one's trolling, trying to shoot you down, or bashing your ideas. I and most others in this thread are here to help you and give a fair critique of your ideas. The problem that still hasn't been resolved is that we still don't know what those ideas are. Answer our questions, respond to our comments in something other than the type of language that makes you look like a near-illiterate six-year-old. If you really don't know what you're doing, we can help. If you can't properly communicate with us, we can't. It's as simple as that.
Indeed they are. When you've finally learned everything there is to learn about Dwarf Fortress and think you've mastered it, what do you do? YOU INSTALL THE MATRIX TILESET AND START OVER, BITCH.**LOTS OF IMAGES**Spoiler: I have this many invaders left to kill (click to show/hide)
**BIG IMAGE (4x4 embark)**Spoiler: After killing thiiiiiiiis many. (click to show/hide)
Almost all that blood is fresh.
I used to play Dwarf Fortress back during version .28, and a lot of the new features look awesome, yet overwhelming. I would say I'm a little below an intermediate skill level, and I've never gotten far enough in a single playthrough to encounter a siege.Depends on your play-style. The hardest new system to learn is the military. If I were you I would just take the plunge. But if it's really overwhelming, the most stable and easy-to-learn release is the last 40d release.
So, do you guys think the new features are worth learning, or should I stick with an older version for now? Just looking for some opinions?
Thanks,
Healey
Never mind, I caught and fixed it.BUG: A king's side castle currently moves the rook a space too far.Was that on player 1's side, or player 2?
Bah, should have written that down. I'm pretty sure I did it as Red and didn't test to see if Blue was in a similar situation.
BUG: The wrong color starts the game. White (the side with the queen on a white tile, default Red Player 2) should start.Yeah, I noticed that. I can just switch it around for next release.
BUG: A king's side castle currently moves the rook a space too far.Was that on player 1's side, or player 2?
I'd throw in a unique text for en passant, just so folks who aren't aware of the rule know what just happened. There's a rather large bug I found while trying to add this, so I'll have it soon.
It'd be nice if there was a warning for when a king is put in check. The game doesn't recognize check, checkmate, or stalemate as per standard chess rules yet. I'm working on adding it in, but right now the only game-ending condition is when the King is actually captured.
BUG: Just moved a knight onto the kings space, and before victory was declared the game allowed me to promote the unit as though it were a pawn.Fixed, see below.
^RELATED: Just moved a knight onto the opponents king space (no king present) and was offered a chance to promote. I declined, and next turn moved a pawn forward a space (Bishop 4) and was offered teh chance to promote the random pawn. After further testing, it appears that selecting the pawn on the opposite side of the board, deselecting it, and then moving any other pawn offers a chance for the second pawn to be promoted.I think the below bugfix solved this too.
^RELATED?: As red, moved the rightmost rook left one space to take a blue rook. Was offered chance to promote.I fixed that bug a while back... but it turns out I only fixed it for player 1. It's fixed for both now.
BUG: Any piece on a kings starting position gives text allowing the option to castle. Was not able to castle in limited testing.Fixed! Yes, the message prompting you to castle is separate from the ability to castle. So you can still only castle with the King selected.
It would be amusing if units wore more than one bishops hat if they killed multiple bishops. Perhaps having them wear a Pope Hat instead if they kill 2, and a Pope Hat on top of a bishops hat if they kill 3 would be an interesting Easter Egg.That's a good idea...
Meta: Wouldn't it technically cauterize the wound, too? You'll just have to trust that these energy weapons are meant to kill people, not safely remove their limbs.
It appears my wish shall be granted. It was the RNG, I swear!
RW: GIGA BAR TO THE FACE BREAKER (Use knowledge of computers to target his weak point.)(...) No face broken, but (...) you hit Monk in the head with your rod! He looks dazed! (...) The mecha-spider jumps onto Xenocalamus's back and begins tearing at it. Xenocalamus squirms around, but can't shake off MC!
Spider: Attack.
Meta: Use telekinetic powers to rip out mechanical innards(...) You patch its face up with your telekinesis! How nice of you.
Meta: Calm down and thank Kyle.(...)
Meta: Pullk out my mop, and use the GM to propel myself onto the boss' back(...)
Meta: Flying kick at the snake!(...) Xenocalamus headbutts you out of the air before you can kick it!
HISSSSSSSSSXenocalamus bites at John as he lays helpless before it. (...) He rolls out of the way and the snake's massive jaws scrape at the metal floor! Xenocalamus's eye begins glowing even brighter, and it shoots a searing hot laser beam from it directly at (...) John! (...) The beam incinerates John's left arm!
Here, have some rules on Castling.I'll never get my info on any subject from not-Wikipedia again. Could have sworn it was one space, not two... I'll fix that for the next release.
Because I've made a move which the game said was Castling, but I know it to be an illegal move.
SHIFT castles, ENTER just moves the selected piece like any other move. You know what the error was? My program literally divided by zero. Also, that's not how castling works. The King only moves one square left or right. And if you only want to move the king left or right instead of castling?
"C:\Users\Owner\Games\Video Games\asciichess v1.1.01b\ASCII Chess\MSVCR100.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact" etc etc.*Standard "Well there's you problem" Joke About Vista Here*
Immediately following that is the default Windows Error Message.
I'm running on Vista
You say Bugfix... but I still have the Castling bug.You know what the error was? My program literally divided by zero. Also, that's not how castling works. The King only moves one square left or right.QuoteEDIT: Good news and bad news. Good news is, it now works. Bad news is, I've found a glitch with Castling. Here's what I did.
1. Selected the King
2. Moved the cursor two spaces to the right, so it's next to the Rook
3. Pressed Shift
4. ERROR MESSAGE.
The error is "asciichess v1.1b.exe has encountered an error and needs to close".
I just tried the program on an XP with no problems. I'm not sure where that error is coming from. You might as well download the new version instead of that download in that link. The new version includes that library in the download. Speaking of which...No, it just freezes up. Ah well, let's see if the download makes any difference...If this works, there will be a massive cake with your name on it.Any error message?
EDIT: Alas, no cake for you. When I ran the .exe, my computer stopped responding to anything (I'm using Windows XP as my OS)Try downloading this and installing it.
