If this works, there will be a massive cake with your name on it.

EDIT: Alas, no cake for you. When I ran the .exe, my computer stopped responding to anything (I'm using Windows XP as my OS)
Any error message?
Try downloading this and installing it.

I don't play ASCII chess, but it seems ultimately pointless if you still have to printscreen the window and upload it. Might I suggest a "export board to clipboard" option, where it puts an ASCII representation of the board on your clipboard? Might be more useful for forums.
I was going to add something like that in but more along the lines of an in-game print screen function that could just produce an image from the whole window or just the board right away. I suppose a pure text-to-clipboard option could be nice too.

Can you save it as a .zip? My computer hates .rars with a passion.
Hyup, there's two download links now.

That's the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Dynamic Link Library a library you need on your XP machine to run C++ apps made in Visual Studio.

Try downloading this and installing it.

Current Version 1.2b, Updated February 23 2011

So, lately I've noticed that down in the Forum Games board people have been having ASCII chess matches.

...Okay, not that many. Anyway, it inspired me to program a piece of software to help out with just that. It's a game programmed in C++: ASCII Chess! I just finished up implementing all the core features I was planning on (which I will explain below), and it's officially in the beta stage. That's where you come in. Test it out for me! It's ideal for forum chess matches, and it has a built-in in-game screenshot function for quick image uploading. Have a chess match. Have a chess tournament. Or just screw around with it and tell me what you think. I'm open to suggestions!

Here's what we have so far:

I had it on turn 5 then it disappears turn 6.
Yeah, the assistant manager threw you out of the store and kept the staff.
Well, 5 players in this game is actually 10, which is the reason I chose only 5 players in the first place. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to increase it, but it's a lot to keep track of already.
Still, only one person has gone kabloopers in 46 turns, so I guess a Projected Killcount Increase would be nice. Unrelated, I'd like to change my character applications: Meta is Pink Wizard, Fantasy is Casualty Prediction Analyst.
This is also the least dangerous floor. Later on things will get a lot deadlier. That and the first dozen or so turns were just introductory for the most part. Then again, a giant snake is about to eat Divide...

On the topic of casualties, I was originally planning to make a sketch of each character on their death. I decided to try it out with ASCIIDraw instead, and the results were... uh...

Listening to the talk while Re-reading this thread.

Whatever happened to that staff I had a while back?
...Staff? When was that?

I'm actually listening to the Talk right now. Every time I try to be critical of the release my brain just goes BEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!
I listened to the talk while playing Minecraft. I feel bad now...

You ever going to expand the player list?
You mean the queue? Or the party itself?
MOST PRESSING CONCERN!!!

Will my black eye ever heal?
...Probably.
also new DF! wheeeeeee
Until the eminent bugfix on new features, I'm more excited about the new DF Talk. And Toady's apparent origin story in it.

BTW I just realised, I should have posted this in the dwarf mode forum.
Preferable maybe, but here is fine.

I'd build a Magmaquarium Megaproject. Build a castle entirely out of glass, with 1-tile-wide empty spaces inside all the walls. Fill the whole thing with magma, and capture magma wildlife for your Magmaquarium. Then furnish it lavishly.

Sorry about that, we had technical issues with one of the cameras while Monk was preparing for the return trip. *looks at monitor* Looks like he may be able to post soon, so we're good to go!

META TURN:
Xenocalamus!

Goals
Find the keycard stations.

Current Soundtrack
G.U.N. Mobile

Actions
Meta: put john in the GM, and ride away from that enemy, than clean the blood from john.
(...) You grab John and ride to the other end of the room, then lay him next to the wall. (...) You manage to wipe up the blood on his face and put some... unicorn band-aids on the wounds. What are these doing in a first-aid kit on a military class space ship? You do this so quickly that you have time to fix John's nose too. (...) You manage to straighten John's nose (as he curses at you, apparently in great pain), but can't find a proper FUTURE CAST for it before John slaps you in the face and runs away.
Meta: Run away shouting for help.
(...) You black out for a moment, and wake up to find that JERK Kyle standing over you! You backhand him across the face, then run to the door and start banging on it and yelling for help!
RW: Channel my NERD RAAAAEEEEEG through the metal bar and attack mechanical serpent. FLAMING SWORD OF SRS BUZNESS! MC(Mecha spider): Use wireless systems to flood snakes senses with blinding white noise.
(...) MC is unable to access Xenocalamus's wireless sensors.
(...)
Derek: "This rod of mine glows with an awesome power! Its burning grip tells me to defeat you! Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow! NERD RAEG!!!"
With all your might, you swing the shimmering metal bar at Xenocalamus's head! (...) It effortlessly dodges the bar itself, but the wave of energy produced strikes it in the body and sends it flying into the wall! Hundreds of tiny metal appendages reach out of its underside and latch onto the wall, and it begins slithering overhead!
Meta: SHOOT IT IN THE HEAD! GRAB THE PLASMA RIFLE!
(...) Leaping through the air, you pull out your plasma rifle and shoot a bolt of plasma directly toward Xenocalamus's head! (...) It doesn't even see it coming, and the bolt strikes it right between the eyes! Half of its face is blasted off, revealing its mechanical innards!
Meta: Strike the head to kill the snake!
(...) You throw your scalpel at Xenocalamus, and it sticks in its non-bionic eye!
Quote from: Xenocalamus
HISSSSSSSSS
Xenocalamus leaps off the wall at John! (...) He jumps out of the way, but Xenocalamus's tail shoots out and grabs his ankle! He falls on his face as Xenocalamus descends on him! Suddenly, Xenocalamus's bionic eye begins to shine red!

Enormous Bionic Adder
