I hope no more trap avoid stuff, that seems a bit a cheap shot and a bit illogical too.

I mean, kobold thief, or flying stuff are one thing... but trapavoid titans??

Honestly speaking, DF's learning curve isn't that massive.  Yes, the game has a lot of functions, but when you get right down to it, all you really need to grasp to have your survive is farming and a firm understanding of effective design layout in general.  You need more than that to thrive, of course, but you can get by otherwise.

this is more evident now, but back in the day a mature fortress has also to cope with the economy, the crazy hammerdwarf, the guilds, and a plethora of nobles mandating stuff, requiring bedroom and keeping it overall very near the edge of a tantrum spiral.

as it is now, a legendary 10x10 meeting hall and a 10x20 engraved room full with overlapping bedrooms is quite enough to keep everyone happy no matter what.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: who else thinks horses are a bit too strong?
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:33:48 am »
I underestimated horses too.  I sent my half-equipped military of 4 dwarves to kill a horse for food - I figured they would get some training while hunting.  The damn horse kicked through the skulls of 3 dwarves and broke the leg of the 4th, then escaped.  In the same fort I had an elf caravan get trapped inside due to ogres and the elves + animals went insane... by the time my military got there, the two pack horses had kicked all the elves to death and one of my random haulers.

Damn things are crazy.

camels. camels have laser sight on their hoof, always aiming at brain of my poor dwarves

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The DF2010 Little Questions Thread

little question on water:
water pushes things, right?

lot of water flowing will pushes goblins and stuff around

does it also pushes megabeast, titans and the likes?

bonus: are pushed titans triggering traps as if falling?

Well with Aimed attacks in place do you think you could go on into basic "Martial arts" next? It would be nice to do  some Akido-like counter attacks or Karate-blows.

Apart from that some questions:

How do the kicker, dodger and related skills influence the fighting opportunities?
Are Kicking, punching considered as valid attacks if you have for example one hand free so you could punch the other guy to knock him out?
Do these aimed attacks work for Ranged weapons too? Will spitting cobras aim for your eyes?
Is Armor taken into account thus will the Ai attack an un-armored part of someones body if the rest is to hard to get through?

edit: Also thanks again for the WoT made from Answers.

here it was the question about ranged 'stuff'

DF Modding / Re: Stonesense - Official thread - Now with .16 support
« on: November 03, 2010, 11:06:31 am »
Is there inis for .16?

look at the opening post.

read it carefully.

[EDIT] Blimey, the git's forgotten to update the post properly.

anyhoo, what the OP is supposed to be saying is that 2.2 supports upto 0.31.16

it hasn't forgotten, only it's written bigger and at the start, right in the title, exactly where nobody looks at. I was fooled myself...

He implied it wouldn't be out till the end of the month, but if it's just pre-release cleanup I'd give it a week or two.

I can't wait, I remember in bed this morning right after I woke up realizing it might be out and jumping out of bed to check.

:c

from the mission status:
Quote
All this and more has already been prepared and only needs a few more days of debugging before the release at the beginning of this month.
[...]
These units making their way across the world is only the first step on the path to great armies planned for the end of the year.

but I wouldn't hold my breath...
but hey, if they release it tomorrow, more power to them!

I am not sure how close is it,  we may have to wait for a few months more.

neither I am, I just believe that it's just too sweet to have all the tools working, it doesn't sound right.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How do YOU organize jobs?
« on: October 27, 2010, 10:43:36 am »
I make dedicated profession for those profession where a building profile doesn't apply, like engraving mining or tree cutting.

every other profession is enabled on everyone, and I manage quality/production using skill restrictions on workshops.

I tend to have all the workshop in one big room, grouped by type so it's easy to do that. haulers bring back and forth materials and products.

this may be totally wrong, but as far as I understand it when you abandon the game search for a reason (goblins, hostiles in general, wild named creatures and such) that may or may not have be the reason of the crumble, and then sneak them somewhere in the underground for some added fun

You're doing it wrong, there's no bear puns in there.

Also, WHY WAS THIS THREAD NECRO'D?!

..and you wouldn't know if the bear had shitted on your wood stockpile
*puts up sunglasses*
better now?
YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Worst Artifacts ever!
« on: October 18, 2010, 02:55:05 pm »
today a bloody stupid dwarf got possessed and made for me a bone crossbow.

which sounds awesome, until you realize that crossbowdwarves doesn't really work in this version and bone is to light to bash people around, while there is no point in hunting skeletal muskox.

...and after that, his's stupid wife made another wooden crossbow artifact.
