Huh, that's interesting... so how would one make a fortress actually inspired by this, and have it be workable and defensible and productive? What can be done, hmmm...

Anyone have a good seed with a great, extensive example of some of the pregen forts, which are very very easy to explore with an adventurer, or easy to extract with some program?

If any of you guys like the idea of "taking as much of the original designs as is feasible, and making that the theme of your fortress, of course changing for defense and stuff", I would LOVE to see some posted images or uploads (like to that webpage that lets you scroll around the entire map) of that...

Guys, what about my original question??

4
So has anyone ever managed to figure out how a nice/complete version of these pregen forts is SUPPOSED to look, fully?  And posted that online anywhere??

5
What about putting the entrance at the end of one of those long halls?

6
Yes, I know the prefab fortresses TOTALLY SUCK, and the 'computer' is not playing the same game that dwarf fortress mode is...

...BUT...

has anyone ever made a WORKING fortress that takes the basic 'look' and some of the basic layout concepts from those prefab dwarf forts that you find in adventure mode? With some modifications, of course, but having a good, quality fortress that takes as much inspiration from the prefab forts as possible? Is this a worthwhile goal?  If so, has anyone posted screenshots of this sort of fort?

Yea... worlds with places that are good on, you know, slow computers... which is why one would use a pregen map rather than a seed...

Also, some help with people actually building simple, efficient, low-dwarf-count fortresses in these places so newbies can get used to copying them to figure out how to do things...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Finding good spots in Pregen .33f maps?

Hi, where can I find some good pregenerated .33f maps? The only one I could find was Tar Thran here:
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/worlds.html

Where is the best spot for a very very very new to the current version of DF on that map, and also, where are some other saved .33f maps and good spots on them? Thanks!

So what are the best non adamantine weapon/armor materials you can find here? Can you at least make Bronze? Iron?

The idea of the road is to do a road to the trade depot, not a road to the rest of your fortress...

The road is supposed to go directly to the trade depot! Thats the only use of the road... to the trade depot, lol...

My current fort is most definitely my "baby" though. I'm only up to summer of the third year, with 51 dwarves, but I've accomplished a lot of work in that time. I'm fixing up a castle for the "true" nobles and the King, so when they eventually arrive, years from now, everything will be ready for them. Haven't really focused on the economy or mass production yet, but that will be the next step I take once I get more workers.
I'll post the save once I've done more work on it.

Also, check out my fortress planning template in Excel on the wiki. (And quick, because Toady's about to change the cliff face from vertical to fractal!) You can practice you layouts using the template, figuring out where to mine in the early years that will still support your grand designs later.
