Yes, the pit solution is much faster than linking up cages. Just be aware that sometimes gobbos being transferred can escape, so the best thing is to put the cage stockpile itself close to (into?) the barracks, too.

Btw, as mentioned in  this thread, it seems like pet-impassable doors trigger their pathfinding, whereas forbidden doors do not. Hence from my preliminary experiences I would conclude that the dragon only uses his breath if there is a path to the enemy, and for some reason a pet-impassable door (tightly closed but not forbidden) does not fully interrupt the path...

Also, I once experimented with a similar setup including a tamed dragon. As far I remember it took me quite some time to figure out how to make the dragon attack with the breath. I think when he was chained it didn't work properly for some reason.

I did not really have the time to complete my experiments because my fortress burned down   :) (also due to a bug though), but I think in the end the only way that worked was having a door in between the dragon and the goblin that was set to open and non pet passable. Setting the door to forbidden would stop the dragon's attack...

Yeah sounds strange I know, but some weird things were going on... let us know how your experiments work out!

Edit: Just to clarify, with the door in place the dragon would indeed attack the goblin despite of being separated from the goblin by a channel (and the door).

I once reported an issue with my tame dragon not breathing fire at goblins unless there was a path to them (and apparently a pet-blocked but otherwise open door counts as path here)... maybe you're having a related problem?

hm.. *cough*... he just died of thirst   :roll:

maybe he was really trapped? how does that happen, and how to see it?

and does it make it any difference if piles are inside or outside (apart from the refuse pile)?

thanks for the quick answer.

Let's see: I have several "raw turtle"s (without the 'x') at food stockpiles, and when I set the 'process raw fish' job, it says there aren't any... hm they are outside the mountain, maybe that's the problem?

I cannot think of anything else... hm I'm trying to get a screenshot maybe...

Hi!

I just started my first game and have a problem: It seems like the fishery does not work with raw turtles, at least they complain that there is no raw fish... or what am I doing wrong?

Also, what does the two 'x' mean around some of the raw turtles' names?

This might be obvious, but have you checked her weapon preferences? Sounds suspicious that she does fight unarmed instead...

That's the way I see it, too, so maybe you'd just have to wait a little bit longer. It could also be that there is no natural "end" to the record keeping task, so that the current task is only interrupted if the dwarf needs to get some sleep/drink/food etc. But after that, he will not get back to it, I guess.

You can just lower the precision setting temporarily to something already achieved, then the record keeper won't work on the records any longer.

How often was this discussed in the last few days in several threads? Unless someone shows otherwise it seems like tamed beasts only kill dwarves if they had killed some dwarf before being tamed.

I agree with Paul in thinking this is a misconception - it's not the name itself, it's having killed a dwarf (?) that makes it untameable.

At least I had a tamed dragon that did not cause further damage...
