Plus, how would you even get the wagon underground without mining?

Well, if you were Duergar-ish, you'd be coming from another underground area, using the caverns as a sort of... Deep Road, almost....

I approve of this suggestion, since it not only allows one to really play a proper duergarlike, but makes the idea of cavern-spawning invasions/ambushes by subterranean elves and goblins and whathaveyous more possible.
You'd have to embark right next to a subterranean road.

1.The animal most likely has to have a value of sorts.
2.It most likely needs to be tamed.
3.The animal may have the "Intelligent" tag.

My hunter only started to hunt if these conditions are met:

1. Crossbow, quiver and arrows are available.
2. An arsenal dwarf is appointed. (won't hunt at all if you can't appoint one yet).

After you satisfy both conditions You may need to disable the dwarf's hunting labor for a few seconds before enabling it again for it take effect.

However, after a few hunts my hunters finish their first batch of bolts but they never seem to pickup new bolts to hunt again.
You have to assign them more bolts, and toggle the hunting labor again.

Gax: Added, might be difficult to live off one animals milk
Qloos: added, might be hard to find coal.
I plan on getting more animals from trade.

Request: One battle axe, some marble(If available) and a milkable animal.
Three woodcutting, two carpentry, 1 milking and 1 axedwarf(Military)
Tactic:
Head to corner
Build a wooden house using wood only he made.
Live off the animal, making cheese for food.
Will accept around 3 more dwarves to help work.
