Is there any way to make different castes have different creature symbols?
Add this to the caste:
CASTE_ALTTILE
Example:
[CASTE:OGRE]
   [CASTE_ALTTILE:O]

And then another question. How do you make humans have a steel skin? (or other inorganic stuff) I've taken some things out of the material list (can't tell which, it's on the other pc) but I don't really think it works well (the creature still gets bruised and teared skin things.
Add this to them:
   [TISSUE:STEEL]
      [TISSUE_NAME:steel:steel]
      [TISSUE_MATERIAL:INORGANIC:STEEL]
      [MUSCULAR]
      [FUNCTIONAL]
      [STRUCTURAL]
      [RELATIVE_THICKNESS:3]
      [CONNECTS]
      [TISSUE_SHAPE:LAYER]
Does it matter where I put this?
As long as it is in the raw, it should work. Also, add this:
   [TISSUE_LAYER:BY_CATEGORY:ALL:STEEL]

My FOURTH fortress now is being assaulted by a horde of crundles.
Nothing major. Only somebody miserable because they were attacked.
EDIT:The mason died and I had a mini spiral. The two who were tantruming became ecstatic after they fell in love.
EDIT2:Blind cave ogres. I'm gone again.

If you're playing a non-dwarven civ in a gme with only the [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag added to the entities, how do you make a military in fortress mode?
Add a militia captain and commander noble to their positions.

Elephants seem to be very curious of doors.
For instance, I had a 4x1 corridor with a door on each side, like this:(D=Door ^=Cage Trap)
D^^D
The elephants wandered through, got trapped, and proceeded to run away every time they passed through the 2nd door.

After the first succumbed to poor management, I was setting up the perimeter for my third when a giant cave spider ambushed my mason. I sent everybody after it, and 3 of the 7 survived. I then walled myself in and flooded the room with magma.
Your settlement has crumbled to its end. Perhaps a perimeter guard will help next time.
EDIT:And if anybody is wondering where the second went; I have one thing to say.

Anyone know whether it's easy to combine Genesis with Kobold Camp?
AFAIK the only problems would be with conflicting workshops and reactions(For training camps, anatomical theatres, etc.) Everything else should transfer nicely.

Is it possible to mod a creature to get pregnant without a male? I have a female only creature (just testing) and it allways stays the only one in the world.
Once eggs are implemented, you may be able to.
Not certain about it, though.

1) Is it currently possible to fish vermin-type fish, specifically turtles or cave lobster? (There was a bug that screwed it up iirc)
You can.
2) How do I fish for large/creature-sized fish like whales, sharks or other ocean dwellers? Do they get caught by cage traps?
You have to kill them manually or capture them. They cannot be fished as of yet.

It could also be dueling.
Dueling would settle disputes and grudges and save your disposable valuable dwarves.
Nobles would probably use a dwarf of their choice to duel in their stead.
