After reading this:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=368097, I believe anythings possible in Rome total war.

I'll pretend you've linked This :D

It has already been decided that we pick Spain next, as it is the "toughest" one to play.

I've pointed out before, that BI is - in my opinion - a poor expansion. WRM is... wait for it.. wait for it... easy to win the campaign with. Their units have amazing, godly morale and defense.
Pick Huns apart when they are engaged in battle with one of the other Horde nations (There are plenty of those, and Huns fight everything. Todays Switzerland is where it happens most often) and from there it's downhill.

Horde-less, one-province minor factions are about the only challenge you can get in BI. Even if the AI is slightly better.

Edit : Although it surprises me how some people were naming faction "X" unplayable a few pages back, and now everything is easy. I guess They eat rocks, like us, Armenians, do.

This LP is not canceled, it's delayed (quite significantly) because we're very close to Ust'Natha (3 updates tops).. and i can't get the damn thing to work!  >:(
With all the AI improvements ,the FPS is cra..b.. (With FRAPS at least) and without them, the battle is too easy! I'm re-writing the AI scripts, but it takes.. a while..

I can not tell how much longer will it take, but it will continue soon.

For now, please, try to enjoy RTW.

Regards

I routed 6 Marian reform Roman stacks with a single Greek army once (your regular archers + Armored hoplites + heavy peltasts + general cav army). The FPS was a tragedy, but the battle sure left a carpet of bodies.

I think 8 is doable as Armenia (since we have wiped 2 at once with no loses, on more than one occasion) , but only because they're all mounted, and some armored as hell too.

Not sure if AI will be smart enough to dogpile on us, but i hope they do that. Burning Rome just isn't the same, if your road isn't paved with skulls.

I need to get a copy of Rome... Any news on the LP? We sorta derailed this pretty hard.

It seems that the voters want me to continue, before switching to Spain, so this is what i'm going to do. For now, however, i have quite a bit work to do, thus it will be a few more days before i resume the LP.

As for why Romans are good :
In combat : Morale, Defense and Pilum
In campaign : Tons of income, weak enemies, 3 strong allies

Also Roman general cav is the best cav in game, right there with Armored Eastern General
They have also the best overall infantry in game, but one on one, there are a few nations who wipe urban cohorts out.

Still they require some tactics at times, unlike Greek armies (form a closed C of phalanx and archers, and go take a bath, the AI will kill itself trying to get you)

p.s. One of our generals has "Been in wars" and "Scarred" traits, for a total of +6hp. I don't see how he could die in battle. (aside from a few unique units, everyone has 1hp)

Is Scythia tough?

No, it's not. Easily defendable, no real dangers at start, horse-only nation.
It can be tougher than the i-win Greeks or Romans, but it's far from difficult.

1207
So, have you folks agreed which faction in RTW is the most difficult? Spain? Thrace? (I'd say Thrace is not, played once, easy).
I'd heard that Armenia is before starting the LP (have i mentioned it was blind? At first, later i played the hell out of Armenia OOS), but it has proven to be difficult only at the beginning or if you lose armies left and right. Spain has one good unit from what i remember, should be fun.

1208
I tried playing as Armenia on RT:W. I got attacked by about 6 nations after attacking one.

I hate alliances. Then Greece went to war with me after I refused to aid them in their own war.

You will always be attacked by Scythia and Partha right off the bat.
Pontus will attack you after they capture indies in Anatolian Peninsula
Greeks will attack you if Pontus is out of the way
Seleucid and Egypt will attack you if you have any province south of your starting position.

The key is to wipe out one opponent early (Partha)
then roflstomp the most easily defendable nation (Pontus) and invade Antioch to cockblock any Seleucid and Egyptian invasions in chockepoints of Susa and Antioch.
Scythians are a pain, but building archery range and stone wall in Kotais allows a decent garrison to stop them completely.

If you don't roflstomp Parthans in first few turns, you're in a world of pain.

Something is telling me that the Romans are ready for us. Call it intuition.

A new poll has been added, just in case.
Despite adding pop to their cities, and allowing sick armies to be built, i don't think Rome can stop us now. 30 provinces, 5 armies, 40 000 gold income. I have a few fun things planned for Rome, but it won't be longer than 3 updates.. unless they REALLY push with their entire blobs of soldiers.

Despite wasting a turn here and there, to make the LP somewhat more interesting (combat wise) we've still advanced too quickly. Romans are dozens of turns away from Marian Reforms, and everyone who is not Roman or Greek, is nearly wiped out by the last two.

Pre-Reform romans are pushovers, thus i will :
- Add 10k population to a random roman city, so that they can build Imperial Palace, and trigger the Reforms.
- Allow them to build up for a few turns. (LESS than 5 years)
- Proceed with vote "D" = TOTAL WAR (which thankfully had the most hits)

Hopefully this will make the silly AI a worthwhile opponent for a few updates... i should have picked Spain..

In other news : All of our cities that have ports are building ships each turn, and nothing else.
In unrelated news : All of our cities that can have ports and connection to Mediterranean, do have ports.  :o
Also : Rebel groups are kind enough, to give us new generals whenever i send garrisons to wipe them out.
Last, but not least : one of our assassins has FINALLY reached a reasonable level, and now roams the land with 9 "eyes".

In other words : We're building up.

I had a nice horse archer vs horse archer fight with Scythians, crushed them.. summary screen.. click.. cli---
Windows Auto Update : Fuck you, i'm going to reboot your PC now!
Nooooo!

It took quite a long time, and auto-battle would result in 50000000 casualties (even though we had only 900 men) so the next update has to wait a bit. I don't feel like replaying the battle today.

Sincere regards.

SACK ROME!

I actually have an idea what do to with Rome :o
It will be unnecessarily bloody, painful and difficult, but i've made up my mind! (even more bloody, painful and difficult due to "ALL OF THE ABOVE" vote leading. But i like blood, unless it's mine.)

1215
Yes actually you can, if you open up the unit info window on units in your army near the top theres a place that has like "1st Line Infantry" if you click on that you can rename the unit.

Nice! If only it was possible in Rome!  :o
