Before we proceed, i'll just toss this screenshot in, to clear things up. Punics lost their last city in Iberia.. Yada Yada...


Now back to Dick Mountainjoy :
Starvation is the key enemy of an army, and marching through half a continent through hostile territory, is bound to starve one's forces. And thus the offensive in Iberia had to wait, until the supplies are sufficient to march again.
It wasn't until summer, 261BC, that our forces made the move.


Land routes were avoided, so that Saiganthe is left defenseless. Aristogeiton of Tarentum made sure that the attack was swift and final. Personally.


The city fell, because it had to.


Yet the Iberians were not blind, and an army was already on route to the city, before the attack even took place. Saiganthe wasn't suited for stopping armies, and the small force that besieged it, wasn't going to change that.


Arsa had to fall, and both armies left east of it had to be crushed if Saiganthe had any hope of survival. A worthy task.


Iberian walls, even though they were made of wood, were an obstacle even for large armies. Tightly packed watchtowers, walls holding entire units of archers.. and the entire town built on a hill.


Even if that defense fell, another elevation was present at the city center, where brave defenders had the advantageous position they needed to tip the balance.


All that was required of Iberians to hold the city for long enough, was for Aingeru to arrive in time. In time to reinforce the city against attack, and aid Avaros the Deceased, once known as Avaros of the Lusitanii.


Aingeru DID arrive, and had a clear way into the city, obstructed only by a small cavalry force.
It is my guess, that the loss of his troops to the aforementioned cavalry force disheartened him.


With Arsa out of the way, just two armies were holding the main army in the west... Well.. Three armies..


Those barbarians managed to ambush us.. Who would've thought..

Now that it has been said let's excuse Dick for a moment, and deal with this ambush. Iberian scum have positioned themselves in three groups, nearly surrounding us. The flanks are strong, but the front.. nope.
While our army is : 3 cavalry up front, 3 skirmishers, mix of archers and infantry.. and hoplite, hoplite, phalanx, hoplite in the back.


The correct thing to do, would be crushing the weak front and go from there, right?
No. We charge through the pathetic Iberian infantry and go for the kill. Enemy general.
What else? Don't move the ranged units back, instead move other units in front of them. Keep firing!
Right flank is where all the butchers from the back go. Front WILL Be stopped by the skirmishers.


It's over already. Done. Won.





Iberians did muster one more attack, directly at Dick Mountainjoy. Their cavalry tried their best to catch him off guard, and they did.


In the end, it mattered not.


It never does.
