There is a light gray, I have seen it several times, mostly from sparring in the barracks.
It indicates the bruised damage level.

I've started having at least one, but usually more like 3, military dwarves start coming every migration, so I have quite an army now.
Would have been more useful when the mayor turned up and wanted a dozen fortress guards though : /
