Life Advice / Re: Friendly yet creepy

Pathos, I literally half-spat out/half choked on my tea when I read that. I really didn't see that coming and frankly preferred my life before I had. ;_;
I'm going to try and put the thought out of mind. Like, really really hard.

You play dwarf fortress... Where capturing mermaids and forcing them to breed only to have their babies taken away and butchered to make earrings from their bones is perfectly acceptable behavior and encouraged amongst the fanbase...

AND THAT BOTHERED YOU?  You're a dwarf, now start acting like one, laddeh!  So, use magma on Pathos, I guess...  Hmm... I think I got a bit muddled there.

More seriously, since this guy gave you trouble getting rid of him, you need to seriously consider your defenses against ending up in an abusive relationship/domestic violence.

What? This guy sounds like the opposite of the type of person who'd end up abusive.

I think what he meant, and tell me if I'm wrong Coidzure, is that if she had a hard time telling off a persistent yet gentle individual, don't you think it would be harder for her to say goodbye to someone abusive and manipulative?

Yes, that definitely was part of my concern.  There was something else that I'm forgetting, but this was a big part.

To quote my mom

I lol'd.
So people can't take knowledge from their parents these days? ZOMG

You have to admit, these days it is pretty rare to get useful advice out of them.  For whatever reason.

^: Also, calling someone King Ratbastard is immature.  Goes with the territory of being a punk kid though, so, y'know.  Not exactly the end of the world.

Well, even the random actions of a madman can be used to glean something if enough thought power is directed at it.

I imagine something similar can be done using a rubric of some sort to interpret the confrontational nature of the accusation.

Hell, sometimes a confrontational assertion of an analysis is the best way to get it noticed to be worked upon.

In this case.  *shrug*  I'd say the secondary commentators have a bit of a point and he made a butt of himself.  Much like this guy apparently gets you to make a butt of yourself and start violent altercations.

It could actually

Social status is a big thing

Of course, I was mainly saying that because if she realizes he was part of this trifecta of awkward creepiness too, his chances are shot

Hmm?  The only awkward part I know of is that they knew about the others liking her.  As far as creepiness, the idea of making the other guys into masterpiece bone jewelry for her far outclasses the whole bickering over dibs thing.

The embark party for my second 2010 fort disembarked directly on top of two dragons (one male, one female, presumably mates) and was immolated nearly instantly.  :-\

A BREEDING PAIR!?  You must capture them for dwarven dragon taming!

So what's the deal with magma forges and the capability to pump it then?

That seems even more anachronistic.  Considering we don't have the capability with our modern tech.

Anyway, yeah. Anything that's made of inorganic substances appear to be unkillable by way of not having vital organs... since death in this game appears to now be linked to vital organs, and not to simply lopping everything off, that's a problem...

I had a giant clay humanoid come to my fortress yesterday. I was terrified because I thought he would be invisible, but my wrestler went at him with a training axe. There wasn't even corpse left, just piles of clay everywhere.

So maybe it's only really hard substances?

Indeed, however, if he had been a ball of clay or a lump of flesh, the slashing weapons that enable the death of this soft, humanoid critter, are utterly useless.

I have the same problem, sort of... It's a cat called Astesh and a dog named Dumat who seem to play a little game with some soap. I can see both of them grasping the bar of soap in their mouth and then they drop it. I've got PAGES full with them dropping a bar of soap.

Aww, they're playing tug of war!

Hmm.  That's two hypotheses for possible ways to get this work.  Anyone doing any testing?

DF Modding / The Plump Helmet Man Question
« on: April 19, 2010, 12:40:41 pm »
So.  We have plump helmet men (PHM, even).  We obviously must exploit them somehow via modding.

One person has already produced a mod to make them secrete noxious fumes to make a stinking, mobile mushboom.

There was also talk of making them into a pacifistic civ with a high splinter and reproductive rate, possibly forcing them to wear nothing but vests and shorts/loincloths to go with their mushroom people look.

Got some of it rolling in dwarf mode discussion,
but figured it should go over here for some proper creative... examination(?).

I like it.  Would definitely be an interesting way to watch 'em eat...

Yo, dawg, I heard you like naps, so I put a bed in your bed so you can nap while you nap while you're dead.

Wet dwarves will also melt if they are wet when they go into the magma forge/smelter.

Ah. So should I add gills as well?

If you want to.  They'll be nonfunctional as of now.  It'll basically be on the underside of the cap which is attached to the head, so the layering seems somewhat confusing on the surface.
