Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: You Are a Suggestion Game GM [SG]
« on: February 25, 2016, 12:44:43 am »
A forum member points out that your thread title is "Interest check for a forum game" and your OP is just "Who wants to play a forum game?"

Put that scumbag in his place! We have to ensure that our wonderful players know that their GM won't tolerate trolls, so that they can have a completely healthy and friendly environment to play in. Look up his private email address from his profile and send him an email informing him that we know karate, kungfu, sushi and yakitori, and if he posts in our thread again we'll hunt him down and beat him up!

Quote
You tell them that you wrote it so you already knew that. Both of you get into an argument discussing semantics somehow until Toady One came in and locked your thread before the cancer metastasize.

What?!?!? How dare he! Send him a private message angrily pointing out that the 18th amendment to the bill of rights guarantees freedom of speech and demand that he reinstate the thread if he doesn't want the internet police to arrest him.

Quote
You suppose that at the very least you should plan something.

Oh, alright. How about something really simple. You know, like a D&D-style game over...some kind of program that's good for hosting D&D games online. Surely there is one and it will be easy to learn. Tell everyone to submit a character using "D&D rules." Surely they'll all know which version that is.

Quote
Shut up, you say to the voice in your head.

Post that the voice in our head will be participating as a player, too. Assure everyone that we're a fair and unbiased GM, so they don't have to worry about favoritism. Submit a character who's a half-mind flayer/half djinn with 22 comeliness who swallowed a sentient ring of infinite wishes and can telepathically communicate with it. But only once per round, that's fair. Also, she's the daughter of Jaina Proudmore and Smaug and she's very humble so everybody likes her.

GM Comment:
The wait until the next update will probably be much shorter than it was for the previous. I recommend finalizing your actions within ~27 hours or so from this post.

What will you do first?

Post an interest check thread! Ask who would be interesting in a totally awesome game! Be sure to not include any details, like what the game premise is, whether it's a suggestion or party game, or any other unimportant details like those.

Surely our game will be completely awesome and people will all want to play regardless of those trivial little details!

Life Advice / Re: Where to meet a girl that will actually talk to me?
« on: February 24, 2016, 09:08:35 pm »
I don't really live in an area that has a lot of community

There might still be a chess or tennis club or something at your local college. Or, worst case, weekend morning church services are potentially suitable places to meet women. They do however tend to be religious and expect you to be same. That might or might not be a deal breaker.

Where to meet a girl that will actually talk to me?

Find a hobby that you enjoy. Ideally, something that you would enjoy doing anyway even if there weren't girls involved. Then attend local events related to that hobby.

For example: http://www.meetup.com/

Juggling, language learning, martial arts, my little pony, whatever. It tends to be much easier to meet and talk to people when there is no "dating" context involved.

Life Advice / Re: Are there ways to make a little money on the internet?
« on: February 24, 2016, 08:50:02 pm »
But are there ways to make pocket change on the internet if your willing to put in a days work?

Yes.

If you're serious, then i recommend you look into Amazon Turk. It's miserable and slow, but $5/hr within the first several weeks is realistically attainable. It does however, take some time to build up your credentials on the site, and in the meantime you'll be making pennies. I have read claims from others that they've been able to earn as much as $15/hr with the more difficult credentials, but cannot confirm, as I gave up after a week or two.

If you do attempt this, check out the reddit thread and spend a couple hours reading before you sign up. There are things you can do to vastly improve your experience, a third party plugin that will help you avoid bad tasks, and also mistakes you can make that can mess up your account so that you no longer qualify for the more well paid tasks. Turk is real, it does work, and people post earning all the time in the low hundreds of dollars per month. However, it does require some diligence, and there is a grueling ramp up period in the beginning where you'll be making like 30-50 cents per hour. I think I was up to $2/hr by the time I gave up on it.

If you're not as serious, then you might consider swagbucks. It's considerably easier and more laid back. It is something you can casually sign up for without doing any research, but the earning are paltry. Again, i cannot confirm as I didn't stick with it, but my impression was that you could probably realistically expect to get a $25 gift card every month if you religiously invested an hour every day. With swagbucks I advise skipping all the videos and games and things and going straight to the surveys, as they pay much better, though not nearly as well as mTurk.

If you want to try swagbucks, here's a referral link. There might be a starting out bonus for you if you use that rather than simply signing up, I don't recall.

"I'll go dismember the wolf. Best we do that now before it reanimates. I could use some company. Oh and no fires. We don't want to alert the zombies down there. Crazyabe, if you can, see if you can do something about Romans. Won't be good if we all get sick."

Go down to the wolf carcass and dismember/behead it. Declaw one of the paws and take it with me. Take second watch.

The wolf event happened along the road on your way to Laketown. You left it on the road several hours away.

Cleaning up, and arrival at Laketown

Spoiler: Kashyyk (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Hawk (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Dustan (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Pencil and Romans (click to show/hide)

Everyone
Help Clear up the Campsite like the twine and such, and keep moving forward toward lake town.
Keep watch while the camp is cleared up, then head with everyone else to Lake Town.
Help pack up the camp,

Get a move on to Lake town.

Get going to Lake Town afterwards.
Still involved in her own nefarious plans, Digital continues forward on the path.
Follow the group.

Stamping out what remains of the fire, you gather up yourself and prepare to resume your journey. Dustan cooks a recently caught squirrel and offers it to Pencil, who along with Romans both feel sick to the stomach, but assure everyone that they'll be able to keep up. Some of you are not so sure of that and begin to wonder if they're a zombie risk, but say nothing.

Meanwhile, Dustan heads north to scout and Kashyyk and Hawk each head briefly into the woods. Kashyyk returns to report that the bones you buried the previous night are still animate and have at least partially dug themselves out, but that they only seemed to react to his presence once he was very close. You infer that they probably couldn't sense your presence from several hundred feet away, and probably didn't spend the entire night crawling slowly towards your camp. Probably. But they were mostly definitely still moving.

As you ponder this, Hawk returns with, to his mild surprise, a medium sized doe on his shoulders. Considering that preparing the meat now would take some time, you decide to cut it into quarters, with Hawk, DigitalDemon, Andres and Kashyyk each carrying a quarter. It's generally best to let wild game sit for a few days before preparation, and you're not in immediate need of food. You can afford to wait. At the very least, perhaps you can prepare it tonight. Hawk estimates that once the inedible parts from been removed, it will probably worth about 10 person-days worth of food.

About this time, Dustan returns to report that the road ahead seems clear. Romans coughs a few times, and you each get up and begin walking.

Spoiler: Crazyabe and IronyOwl (click to show/hide)

Early afternoon

Shortly after midday you spy a man on the ground struggling with a large wolf on top of him. You yell to try to scare of the wolf and rush forward to help. Before you can close the distance, however, the wolf tears into the man's throat and shakes violently.

And then yelps and jumps back from the man, them flop over onto its side, thrashing wildly.

You slow down your approach as you see the man slowly pick himself off the ground and lumber over to the thrashing wolf and descend upon it, biting and swallowing chunks of flesh until the wolf stops moving. The sound of drawing your weapons attracts the mans attention, and he turns to you, his face and shirt soaked with blood.

Another zombie.

being outnumbered and already injured from its fight with the wolf, you dispatch it easily, but as before, even after being mutilated beyond the ability to simply stand, his various parts keep moving. Hacking off arm arm simply reduces it to crawling along the ground while the body continues to fight you. Cut off its head and the jaw continues to snap. With even burning and burying not having been successful the previous day, you're uncertain what to do to truly "kill" it. You settle for rendering the various pieces at least small enough to present no immediate threat, well aware that this could become a problem in the future if you're unable to find a solution.

You take the opportunity to rest. Romans and Pencil comiserate over their illness as she removes the bandage on his arm and inspects his wound.

(Romans healing attemptl, target 50: roll 20+11 FAIL)

Her superb previous treatment seems to have prevented infection, but the wound is not healing particularly well. A significant portion of muscle was bitten away, and it causes him pain to rotate his forearm or move his wrist. While it hasn't become any worse, it doesn't seem to be getting better very quickly either. Without either successful intervention or a stroke of good fortune, this might be an injury that stays with him for a long time. Romans puts on a new bandage and discards the old one, occasionally coughing all the while.

As for the wolf, at least for the ten minutes or so of your stay, it doesn't noticeably move. A few of you suggest taking it with you to see if perhaps it does become a zombie, but simply takes more time to become active. Noone volunteers to carry it. A few others suggest keeping the meat, but given the uncertain safety of zombie-contaminated meat, and your freshly caught deer, you decide not to take that chance, and instead resume your journey north towards Laketown.

Sundown

As the sun approaches the horizon and you consider setting up camp, but decides to walk just one more hill hoping for a view of the land on the far side. Reaching the crest and looking down you see devastation before you.

A brush fire has devastated the area, leaving only a few burned out husks of trees still standing. The lake is clearly visible, and along it the remains of perhaps 20 half burnt-out wooden buildings of various shapes and sizes.  With mixed feelings of hope and dread you make your way towards them, hoping to find some survivors. It doesn't take long before you catch the first glimpses of movement. Yes, there are definitely people down there. Perhaps ten, perhaps twenty. It's difficult to be sure. You're quite certain you can reach the remains of the town before dark. A fifteen minute brisk walk at most. However, as you get closer, you notice something.

The forms walking around down there don't seem to be going anywhere. They're not walking between buildings. They're not carrying anything. They're simply meandering aimlessly through the streets.

It will be dark soon.

Next update is half written and should be up tonight. I think a few people still haven't submitted turns. If you haven't submitted an action and want to, I recommend getting it into within the next 10 hours or so.

Success!

Lordbucket will be attending San Diego Comic Con 2016. Sadly, by the time I got in, only Thursday and Sunday nights were left. Didn't really want to drive down to San Diego and back twice. Figured Thursday was more likely hardcore geek night and Sunday more casual, so went with Thursday.

Now I need to decide on a costume. Hmm.

Anyway, so...Meph, looks like it's probably just you and me for bay12 again this year. Will you be there Thursday? Meetup?

Good luck!

Thanks. Not looking good. Saturday just sold out. Glad for the company though. :) This so seems like it should be a thing that bay12ers go to and have meetups at every year.

Did you ever take pictures of your costume last year? I don't think I ever saw them.

44
And so once, again, it is waiting game time to see who gets in. I'm in the waiting room. Would be nice if there were more bay12ers who went to this. Seems to me a few years ago we had 3-4 or people in the thread.

EDIT:

@9:26 Preview night sold out

@9:36 Saturday badges sold out

I'd play on a bay12 vanilla server. Not interested in pvp though.
