The pockets burn and the fleet hungers.

Ships and military cost a lot :(
with a 16k cash income just from tax, i still need 2 full time bank planet to sustain these paperweights.

The way i [guess] it, if i attack someone, i'll instantly get a minimum 4% corruption added to my already ludicrous corruption rate, and thats only for attacking the next biggest after The Don Bot, ie QeCHua or Orb.

now 4% of 16k is 600ish bucks less per turn, which will no doubt make me assign another useless bank planet, as the coffers already look pretty dry. -Plus- 4% of research and production. It'll hurt, considering this is only for taking out (or trying to) one of 27ish players, and if the fleet fails me, they'll surely gain an empire-wide morale boost of something crazy to add to everyone's already crazy rep scores.

Is this how it works for rep? does that bonus (say +5) reduce empire corruption by 5%? and by 5% i mean if you had 5% corruption, you now have 0%.

the wiki isn't very clear on the issue, can one of you guys with some rep hover over your corruption rate in the planet info screen to see if the tooltip shows a direct minus to your corruption?

Edit:
Don't get me wrong, i can see that 4% isn't really much, but if i attack 3 (of 27ish in lets face it, a galactic war game) players it'll quickly add up to 12% to ADD on to my crazy 20%+
attack 10 players? cant be done, i would completely cripple my economy.

please oh please let my gov's do well while i sleep. I've double checked and triple checked those dudes, but i cant help but think i've programmed them poorly.

Considering your score so far, I'd have to say you did well on that. :-\
Looks like i did OK on that front, but was still pretty daunting at the time, was about to go to bed and was just hoping for the next 8 hours my planets would take care of themselves.

I just read through the guides and wiki and winged it from there, and it turned out well.

I don't know if score has that much relevance though, for instance Virex has quantum engines at half my score, yet I'm still trudging the galactic wasteland with fusions, which costs me all my dueterium. My tech levels suffered a bit for my early expansionism, which may cost me any early battles.

Also i passed one guy's system, who is one third my score, and he's got a fleet with over ten shuttles in it. My main fleet is less than half that size by comparison. Though seeing that made me step up fleet production a bit.

But yeah, i'm gonna have to start paying for the game, it rules.

I'm keen for the team galaxy, sounds good.

I wouldn't worry about me completely owning anyone,  I'm probably target number #1 atm.  I'm also next to the 2nd dude, and the 3rd dude on the list, so some shit will have to go down at some point, which should drain our economies and our rank on the boards.

All the players you mentioned i haven't met, so i'd say you guys are on the other side of the galaxy.

Also, not many people accept my treaty offers, so surely that means they plan an attack within the 50 turn peace offer.

My demands for tribute also seem to get ignored, which i guess translates to "We laugh at your empty threats!".

Edit - for me, only Seikyu would give any positive reputation for warring, and i'm quite enjoying the peace i have with him.

Am i the only one in the galaxy buying resources off the market? Or does the price only change for the player who uses it?

Like, is metal worth 840 for you guys? or still 800? (the overview screen)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dwarves must be governed!
« on: July 18, 2010, 10:34:54 am »
I haven't managed it in these new versions either.

population >100, done plenty of varied jobs, have golden roads here and there, but still no baron or economy. Economy is not turned off, and no mods 31.10.

DF Suggestions / Re: Some General Suggestions

Reality doesn't really agree with a big chunk of these.

Reality doesn't much agree with dwarves, goblins, elves and trolls much either, but who cares?

I strongly agree on the original post, all of it.

DF Suggestions / Re: [For or Against] Tunnelers units
« on: July 03, 2010, 08:12:58 am »
100% For tunnelers.
Simply because it would make a siege dangerous.
You can plan and build thousands of combinations of crazy defenses that can stop anything, whereas the best the enemy can do is what? Throw away a wave of idiots each time you lower your drawbridge for that split second.

Its lucky for them marksdwarves don't work atm, otherwise you'd never even let them in.

Turn this sandbox into a game! Vote For tunnelers!

I'm a big fan of thief, stalker and deus ex.. though theres not really that many games as good as these for that particular genre.

To play any really good ones, you may need to grab dosbox, and play some of the classics, like Ultima Underworld 1 & 2. Both are similar to arx fatalis, but they're a little bit older, and a little bit bolder. Graphics are dated, and controls are pretty bad, but they still kick the christ out of Arx.

Sounds like you've already tried fallout 1 & 2, but if not, try them, they're much better than 3. Same to Morrowind (the game before Oblivion).

Jagged Alliance 2 is great, you control a group (of your choosing (or even just your main guy)) of mercenaries, and a mission to free arulco, a fictional 3rd world country in south america (i think?) from its ruthless dictator-queen. Fights play out in a turn-based isometric way, like the old xcom games, or fallout 1/2 (but grander). Has tons of guns, character building, scifi stuff (has option for no scifi stuff, if your not feelin' it), and plenty of humor.

speaking of xcom.. Xcom: ufo defense. best game ever, try it. Grand real time strategy, research, manufacture, shoot down some ufos, then go into turn-based strategy (kinda like fallout 1/2) for when you want kick down the door of that landed (or crash landed) ufo and force-feed some sectoid scum their own plasma technology. Great fun, 20 outa 10.

Dungeon keeper 1 & 2 by Bullfrog are good, though not the same genre. More like DF with a serious budget, and even more humor. Though to be fair, much less detailed.

Speaking of bullfrog, try Syndicate. Fun for the whole family! Any game which lets you have 8 miniguns concealed under each of your cyborgs' trenchcoats must be awesome. Great music too.

I should mention Thief 1 & 2, in case your only talking about 3. They rule.

Mount & blade is fun for a while, cant hurt to try the demo.

Someone already mentioned Darklands, i'll go for a +1 for that.

X2 and X3  i liked a bit, though still prefered Privateer, a similar but older game. Cant really do as much in it, but the atmosphere is better, and easier to get into.

Betrayal At Krondor is good, if you've read any of Raymond E Feist's books, if not probably not as good.

The older Vampire game was good too (Vampire: the masquerade) though probably a bit linear.

Also.. Nethack. You cannot go wrong with Nethack.
