I just typed a bit of a rant about how bitcoin is a ponzi scheme and then deleted it. Suffice to say, if you buy a bitcoin your money is better off burned in the street. It's akin to buying money to spend that money [hopefully in the future]. If you even believe you're buying bitcoin on the 'markets' you can 'buy' them from anyway.. It's all probably made up exchanges. The only money to be made is daytrading it. But I also say that is something to stay about 10,000,000,000 lightyears away from for the aforementioned reason, it being a made up exchange to trade it on.

Nothing to do with ethnicity, I just don't enjoy states falling into paternalism and autocracy, guided by a forceful cult of personality. It tends to lead to issues.

Hey, thanks! I've been trying to get the point of that article myself. Tried searching for the word "petrodollar", found a bunch of "economic collapse" preachers and some leftist blogs that were just patting each other on the back.

You've now found the mysterious place of the internet we call 'gold bugs' who use anything to try and justify the US dollar being worthless in their eyes. The petrodollar falling apart may be reality one day, but the people who preach it currently are the same people who tell you to buy gold or bitcoin.

I'm actually pretty sure Death of the Petrodollar is one of the most common titles ever. And entirely misleading when used in every case.

<Works better to ask the person directly> American, born of an Israeli and a German. Though my father's family was French pre-migration technically. Yes, my parents had a weird story.

That article is not about that subject.

To be fair, the writer of the article is rather clear about what the point of the article is, which is selling people his 'service';

Petrodollars leave for the first time in 18 years

Would you mind explaining the implications of this to the uninitiated? :]

A robbery in France, caught on cam. Just for reference, police arrive at about 5min.

Wow. If that were the US, this would have been a death situation. Also lol@6:02, guy tries to just leave with the cop blocking the door. I'm amazed at how foreign it looks to me to see police not escalate a situation to violence immediately.

Russia has revised it's 2015 growth prediction from +1.2% to -.8%, thanks to oil and sanctions.

Russia's central bank being blamed for the Ruble dropping by insane right wingers.
Best quote: "Its bosses are officially abroad. I am assuming that it will do the maximum evil. The Central Bank will do everything to have the ruble rate fall."

Except if the central bank were intervening more, it'd just be easier to drive it down due to the predictability of their trade corridors. And I've said it before, the more of their reserves they spend, the easier it is to lower their credit rating. It's a shame people like Fyodorov can even get a position as a 'lawmaker' on the Budget committee even with his glaring ignorance and arguably dangerous rhetoric.

Aren't theocracies at that size/level basically unbreakable? I've rarely seen them larger than a small kingdom, though.. Might be interesting if the Holy* Roman Empire is actually a theocracy and doesn't explode.

*Like, seriously Holy. Not just tagged on Holy Holiness. Bonus points if they achieve a Pope/King combination.

When you attack a nation with your military and annex its land, that's typically referred to as an invasion

Ruble currently experiencing the worst drop since 1998.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is screwed. And about to freese.

I'm sorry, this was completely unsportsmanlike.

Anyway, can we please talk about something else than Russian economics? Here's a ballet in Mariinsky theatre.

Ignoring the consequences of actions doesn't make them disappear. Putin is happy that you don't want to talk about the impending unwinding of all the work he's done to build an empire for himself and his close friends.
