Other Games / Re: A Game of Dwarves
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:02:10 am »
It is about the time someone took the core concept of DF and you know, made an actual game out of it.

May your game sell buckets, and may every bucket be deduced from Toady's donation income.

Because DF isn't an actual game.. Your second statement's a bit asanine, if you mean what I assume you do [for instance, you probably just put deduced there for vocabulary fun]. A game about Dwarves =/= DF. Wish for success all you wish, but not at the expense of a truly deep game.

But jackass-ery (above) aside, this does look rather pleasing. I love me a good Paradox production, if it's not hurried to hell and back before being released in a beta state, which I need to patch/mod for the next 5+ years to play correct. Just sayin'. But this seems like it diverges from the usual Paradox formula, we shall see.

I forgot, does the US have the rights to travel to another country to arrest people in the first place?

Unless it's a puppet/protectorate, I do not think so. Besides, the arrest was carried out by the local Bobbies/Newzealander forces.

Basically they're pinning the responsibility of preventing piracy on those hosting the services.

Imagine if your local department of transportation was asked to police the highways. That's essentially what's happening here (and on youtube, etc). Failing to do so is assisting in piracy or some such bullshit.

I've seen the exact same charges presented against multiple true piracy sites, such as Demonoid and Piratebay. I'm sure you can guess how well those worked.

No, it's not that.

It's saying that Toyota is responsible for a person driving their Camry over the speed limit, and should install GPS tracking devices in all cars at their own expense to alert police when it occurs.

Well, to be honest, that's basically the same idea of forcing a silly idea of self policing on the Internet.

Especially because anyone with half a brain knows that 'combating piracy' is about as worthwhile as the War on Drugs, and would rather use the trend to benefit themselves, such as appealing to the market of people who need online storage (oddly enough, seems to be people that want to share things on the internet!), as opposed to trying to stifle the world innovation brought by it.

If they are guilty for having a site that happens to make piracy a bit simpler (considering the plethorah of other file-sharing sites), yet not for commiting the piracy/theft themselves, then how is is their legal liability? It's not like Megaupload is a piracy advocate of the Interwastes. It's almost like they're arresting them for racketeering, except without any actual racket..

I mean, is Bill Gates being arrested because hackers across the world utilize MS operating systems to write/distribute viruses and adware? Does this not cause monetary and emotional (bullshit) damages to these great entertainment conglomerates and their associations?

I'm an Engineer, law is just a hobby. I'm sure we could all use a bit of a crash-course in this, so to speak.

I'm thinking stress from the usual teenage-girl-stress-causers plus contagious hysteria.

Those damn poor stressed out girls, getting Tourettes. I say we should spread stress awareness.

Otherwise, I still have no explanation other than the good ol' "They're faking for attention" pessimist fallback.

Bullying is also a serious matter in many cases.

On an entirely lower scale then most other issues... Not to say it's a nil cause due to that, but Urist does have a point, sort of.

This also covers anti-discrimination as well, though, so it's a well-and-good enough idea and I support it. I shall help with a true Dwarven heart as soon as I can.

Against. For many reasons. Mostly public health and not wanting a neighbor who might immagine raping me.  ???

Guess what? Your stupidity and ignorance are more of a societal health issue than any gay I've known.

His campaign has disavowed it, of course. Just like all good campaigns do. Even as they reap the benefit on the ground. It's the exact same kind of slimy shit that Karl Rove pulled on McCain in SC back in 2000. The good part is that they did this in NH, where it'll probably backfire and give Huntsman MORE support.

Good. I hope these (S)PACs will take a lesson and stop trying to turn everything into a distraction. Maybe use a real issue as campaign fodder, as opposed to using fodder as fodder? It irritates me that they have the money to spend on an advertisement calling him out for adopting children that are happier and, more importantly, alive, thanks to people like him that adopt and don't go out of their way to have their own kids, further seperating the 'first world' populations from the less fortunate located elsewhere.

I wish I had millions to waste on a nil point.

I would spit on the producer of it. I bet Paul is pissed.

I could say many things about that sod. Reagan is a terrible role model for anyone planning to administrate anything, let alone the United States.

I'm very confused as to how he 'accidentally' said Obama will turn the country around. Maybe his circuits are wearing? Someone get another GOPbot in there.

Also: He's old, not senile. Mccain is a pretty sharp man, he just sits under the GOP's thumb. Being in the actual military+holding political office for a near quarter century isn't likely to lead to senility.

Holy shit dude really? Man really?

He shouldn't show the tendencies of the type if he isn't willing to be called it.

Psh, daggerfall was crap as a game. It had fantastic writing and story but the game itself was a ball of drudgerry and boredom. It had a lot of its own poor design decisions, UI issues, bugs, etc. The only thing that has changed is that people now look at it through rose-tinted nostalgia.

Was it? I found it much more exciting than the previous RPG/dungeon games I'd delved into in the 90's. It was an actual effort, an attempt at something worthwhile in the industry. Not a sequel to make bank on, as shown by the Skyrim/Oblivion/Fallout3 system we've seen by Bethesda.

okay.

Quite constructive. May as well rename this to the Bethesda Fanboy Club if you don't appreciate the inherent quality of the game to be expanded on, friend.

Well, I cant really relate to everyone wishing bethesda was back like how they used to be. I also cant relate when people say Skyrim is a low quality game; compare it to 95% of the stuff out there and Skyrim is gold. Or when people say Morrowind was good; I really disliked that game. Daggerfall was worse still.

Its not that I am ignoring the quality of the game, its just that I dont see eye-to-eye with everyone who isn't liking Skyrim.

I think that may be your issue, friend. I think you've just proven how your mindset is, based on your opinion of Bethesda's real works of art.

Catapults.

Cannons!

That can misfire and leave a crater at the spot.

That would be a game I could get into, if they really utilized this idea to the max.

Heh, yup. Getting a bit like the old thread ;P

You couldn't expect just everyone to act like you and ignore the quality of the game the topic is about, no?

I'm looking forward to Magna Mundi The Game.

2012 will a good year for paradox strategy games with that and Crusader Kings 2 releasing in Q1.

CK2 is coming out? How was I unaware of this?

I've been waiting for a total conversion mod of CK1 to come out, and expecting it before then! I'm STOKED. Crusader Kings was a godly game for it's type, and with Deus Vult+Fan Patches/Overhauls it's absolutely perfect.
