Is it still possible, with enough time, for some to spawn randomly at cavern edges?

1127
Ah, thanks!

I was in the object testing arena and noticed that jabberers and cave dragons weren't on the list.  I just checked the subterranean creature raws and didn't see them there either.  Were they removed from the game?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: how many new clothes do I need?

The workflow plugin in DFhack is also helpful in keeping people clothed. All you need to do is set it so that your workshops will try to keep X number of unworn clothes, and then don't worry about it.

What's the item tag for unworn clothing?

*Edit* Oh, nvm, just noticed that workflow works off of the amount that isn't in use.  Duh ;).

Nvm, found the answer.

I should have said "my current elves." In previous games, I had elven civs in all kinds of badass places.  Giant eagles, giant tigers, giant sloths, etc.  I wasn't paying attention to that before starting my current game :(.  The most exciting thing so far has been grizzlies.  I wish civ expansion happened outside of worldgen, too.

Speaking of expansion, it would be cool if the elves expanded into more savage areas.  I want tame giant tigers :D!

1133
Very cool!

Normally my veterans decimate goblins, holding their own against much larger numbers.  Even against elites, they take them out within 2 pages of combat text.  However, in the last major battle, a speardwarf of mine went up against one goblin who gave him 6 pages worth of combat (checked from the goblin side to make sure it wasn't multiple enemies with the same weapon).  Do invaders come with randomized (perhaps within a set range ) of combat skill levels or did the goblin just get lucky enough to gain enough combat skill during the fight itself to last longer than normal?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The best feelings in DF

When a favorite dwarf of yours falls to the ground in combat and help arrives just in time.  I've gotten attached to a migrant family (wave 2) and both children have been the youngest members of the military when they joined.  Edem II, at only 14, was feeling pretty confident with his snazzy steel armor... until he came up against a goblin wielding a silver mace. OUCH is an understatement.  That mace smashed every limb, some in multiple places.  One of the metalsmiths got the kid off the battlefield while his sister guarded him against further attacks.  Which brings me to my other favorite thing.

I agree with Slythe and slothen.  When it works, the healthcare system rocks.  It took five dwarves working in shifts to tend to the recruit's wounds.  The metalsmith who rescued him also happened to have some medical skills and helped him out the most 8).

Salt water, possibly?  I've noticed on some maps that salt water can still be present even if your embark site is close, but not directly adjacent to the ocean.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Need More Sieges
« on: May 20, 2013, 02:46:19 pm »
Hmmm, good question!  My current fort is almost to 80, so I might able to test this out soon.

i would also like to know if sieges stop if you barely survive one, or if they continue uninterrupted

With humans, you can get peace treaties through their diplomats.  Goblins don't have them.  The elves used to, but their diplomat is broken atm.  I'm not sure about siege frequency, but at least with ambushes, I've noticed that beating goblins soundly can sometimes give me a 1-2 year breather. Might just be a coincidence, though.

personally i have a clothing stockpile that doesn't allow bins, that keeps unworn clothes, every once in a while the stockpile suddenly empties, then i make clothes untill it stops being empty

Excellent!  I'm going to add a big clothing outlet on my dwarves' residential floor.

Yup, this is one of THE best features of the game.  Engravings featuring events from past forts is also possible :).

That was because my expedition leader / miner was visiting the magma forges at just that time. One hit with a pick and the condor was unable to fly due to a damaged right wing. Then a bunch of ordinary freshly drafted dwarves (I drafted everyone because I was ready to go out in style) jumped on the immobile bird and began to punch and strangle and wrestle it. The condor managed to tear someone's artery to make him bleed to death in a few seconds, but apart from that it landed maybe three or four hits total. In the end the heroic expedition leader had enough mercy to deliver the last fatal blow to the surprisingly weak megabird.

That's pretty epic!  Any syndrome problems later?
