I just had my first two FBs recently. I didn't play the new version until .10 because I like blunt weapons. I had a squad of three talented hammerdwarves attack this giant feathered ant-eater.Not suprisingly, two hammerdwarves died while the caravan guard dispatched it. After pissing off the dwarven caravan and them leaving me to die (Did I mention I had no food?) My lone hammerdwarf was left too kill a leech with a shell. He picked up a hammer, used his newly legendary wrestling skills and grabbed it by the top and broke it's shell, killing it instantly.Of course, I still have tantrumers running around from the FB eating people. Can't win 'em all  ;D

I do entrance, work room, Carpenter/Mason/Crafts, living quarters digging wise.My wood cutter is cutting down about 15 trees on a moderately forested map, and seven on a sparse one. My farmer is gathering herbs, and my mason and craftsdwarf are building workshops as soon as they can. Goverment dwarf sits there and hugs cows. After it has workshops and an ample (thin) food supply I dig like mad for the caverns, military or not.

They do need to hit the trap tile, and your mechanics will need to reload the crossbows. But do it anyway because (IIRC) marksdwarves are still broken. And it would be epic. Oh so very epic to watch the goblin on point get pincushioned by holes in the wall (imagination pays).
Oh no, these would be set in the floor like mini ballistas, smoothed tiles (pressure plates conform to tile color, but this is imaginary aesthetics) and a whole field of pressure plates. The next eager bowman, and Fwoosh! Green skin down.

Can you put bolts into a weapon trap? That seems like it'd be more straightforward.

Also, you should have the last few close the floodgate, but open another leading to an even worse death hall.
I do have a volcanoe..... or, y'know, hammer time.

Okay, so I got an idea. Hook a few pressure plates up to a coupla crossbow traps with copper bolts stacks at the end of a hallway. I figure I could make the last few close a flood gate at the end of the hallway. Anyone ever test this or know if it works?

Dwarven baseball. The pitchers sure hate the batters though, I saw a ball go through one of those batters like it was on fire...(War imps)

This should also be called mad world mod. I mean, you can use lazer rifles against living cacti or something! THe world had a universal rip and everything that should be spilled out. It's like the phantom tollbooth gone mad.
