DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Roc Breeding.
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:39:38 pm »
You could just turn off roc eggs in all your food stockpiles.

I prefer anywhere from 40 to 60. That gives you enough dwarves to run the needed industries and maybe a luxury side industry, while still having enough haulers and a reasonable sized military.

Just have to lower the pop requirements on things like sieges and megabeast/titan attacks, so you will actually see them if you keep your pop that low.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Can you create underwater walls?
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:06:12 pm »
When fishing you are catching vermin fish, not "large creature fish" that would swim in from off map. Simply building a room over the cavern lake and putting some grates as floors, will let your dwarves fish through it in relative safety.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Bins, Love Them Or Hate Them
« on: March 18, 2013, 01:11:44 pm »
Used to love them, but I have been slowly moving away from them due to some of the aggravations with them. Especially considering how much more space efficient an auto quantom dumping system is. I still use bins to store vendor trash though. I just consider the hauling update a mixed blessing.

Perhaps an option in the stockpile to tell dwarves that bins/pots/bags in it are not to be moved to pick crap up, but instead bring everything to it like they did in previous versions. Would save a bunch of aggravation in setting up loads of feeder stockpiles to mitigate the new hauling system.

Name: Merin Wistyn
Race: Halfling
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Alignment: Chaotic Nuetral
Diety: none in particular
Class: Sorceror, with the possibility of a bit of rogue

Bio: Naturally gifted with magic from a very young age, she worried her parents and most of the burrough. They tried to discourage her use of them with extra chores and work in the fields, though that never stopped her from practicing them in her free time.

She has since decided that life cooped up in the burrough wasn't for her, and wanted to see the world as well as be able to practice her abilitities more freely. And an incident that caused the townsfolk to banish her, might have aided in that descision. Besides it could've been anything that spooked that pony into a wild panic that badly injured one of the citizens, not just her spells.

Edit: Name updated

Woot! First character submission.

Not familiar with Dragon Disciple, but now that I'm checking the description I'm thinking we may have a "no prestige classes" rule. The character bio itself is fine, but forgive me if I have a difficult time reconciling your statement that you were going to avoid powergaming and yet you want a class that the NWN wiki claims is basically one of the most powerful classes in the game with a massive pile of super abilities, several immunities and a +14 attribute points bonus at level 10.

...yeah. I'm going to rule base classes only:

 * Barbarian
 * Bard
 * Cleric
 * Druid
 * Fighter
 * Monk
 * Paladin
 * Ranger
 * Rogue
 * Sorcerer
 * Wizard

What about other prestige classes, like Dwarven Defender, Champion of Torm, Shadowdancer, Shifter and such. While I personally find RDD a rather meh class with its only saving grace being the huge +14 attribute points, some of the other prestige classes in nwn have nowhere near the bonuses RDD gains.

Shadowdancer's first lvl feat "Hide in Plain Sight" is indeed OP, but the rest of the class is fairly nice. And I like it for the rogue like abilities it grants on the side for chars that didn't multi into a normal rogue. That HIPS feat alone is what makes the SD class OP in my opinion. Though a simple true seeing spell/ability, nukes the feats usefulness.

Palemaster can be OP with the 10th lvl crit/sneak attack immunity, and gobs of extra ac. Honestly I consider PM to be far more OP than RDD. Especially on a melee build. PM actually sorta handicaps a caster build the more you take of it. The extra abilities it gives beyond lvl 10 aren't worth the caster lvls you would lose for it.

RDD, you've already covered has a large amount of the red dragon super ablities and the huge stat bonuses. And any caster attempting to take rdd is going to gimp themselves in the long run anyways. The OP'ness of this class comes from a melee char abusing it, much like they would abuse a PM.

Those are probably the 3 most overpowered of the prestige classes off the top of my head. And do make for strong chars jus simply based on them alone, but like most every class in nwn its how you combine them with the base classes that makes them really shine into the potential behemoths that they can be.

Anyways I can still make a char without them, but jus putting out an arguement for some of the other prestige classes that are actually balanced.

I have done my fair share of power gaming on nwn, and I still know a significant amount of ways to put together some absurd characters. I can give you a fairly good run-down of most any class you want, here or in a pm if you don't want that knowledge out there.

An hour or 2 earlier would be appreciated, but not neccesary for me. I'm fairly flexible on my available times, so long as I know a few days in advanced.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Seed Hauling Bug
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:12:41 am »
I've stopped using seed stockpiles period here. At least till Toady manages to work out some of the kinks with the hauling update and seeds. I keep my food processing areas close to the farms. The workshops process the plants, and leave the seeds in the workshops. They do still try to bag every stupid seed much to my chagrin, but at least they don't spend as much time moving bags around. The only type of seeds that makes it out of the farm/food processing area are the plump helmets since they are edible raw, and the seeds often times end up in the dining hall.

The time is fine, I can make it, I'll just end up sleeping in the next day. And it won't be the first time I've stayed up entirely too late playing some game, nor will it be the last.

266
Might regret being up that late, as that is 1-4 am for me. But I can probably make it provided I don't fall asleep earlier.

As for class, I can roll with most anything, and can take my pick from whatever is leftover or needed.
As for the rp part, I'll give it a shot. But I wouldn't expect anything beyond a fairly generic backstory.

Are we going to need any hakpaks or the CEP?

I may be mildly interested. It's been a long time since I've played nwn seriously.... mid 07 if I recall was about when my main server I played on shut down. Though I was more into building chars for fun rather than roleplaying, whether they were min-maxxed killers or jus oddball creations of little combat ability. Guess I can go dig through a few of the old boxes and see if I can find my old nwn cds.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Does everybody use magma forges?
« on: February 09, 2013, 05:27:36 pm »
My fortresses do inevitably use magma forges in all of them. Though jus how quickly I get to settng them up depends on some factors. Like does my starting civ have coal or lignite I can embark with. Or am I planning on settling a deep fort or a surface/near surface fort.

If I got coal or lignite available for embark, I will use most of my points on that, and live off it for the first year or 2. If that isn't available, I bring an extra pick or 2 and dig for the magma sea within the first season or 2.

Surface/near surface forts, I'm a little slower to dig to the sea and build my forges, as I'm usually busy getting my initial defensive positions built and operational, since a surface fort isn't as naturally well protected as one built miles under the earth. A deep fort for me is one built in the caverns or below the caverns and jus above the magma sea, obviously due to the proximity to the magma sea of one of my deep forts, the magma forges are usually setup quite quickly.

I do remember your name now from the old Hamachi room, Sergarr. If you want to arrange some matches, I'd be willing to play. Just send me a pm or some such, so we can avoid upsetting our more sensitive fellow forumnites with a necro'd thread. ;P

And 13.5 does look interesting. A friend even found and linked me a demo version of it, but I couldn't get it to run on my ancient pc.

Oh wow, been awhile since I've seen this thread. The hamachi room in question is pretty well dead as far as I know. But I still do play soku, usually with direct connect, but can use hamachi if needed.
