DF Gameplay Questions / Two Questions: Nobility and Shutdown
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:51:53 pm »
Hi there. New forum user, longtime DF player. I've recently made the switch to DF2010 and have noticed two odd things that I haven't seen mentioned on the forum. The first is that, no matter what, I cannot seem to get any nobility to show up beyond the mayor, arsenal dwarf, etc. That is, after developing four forts to 100+ population, millions wealth created, hundreds of thousands of wealth imported and exported, a wide variety of item production and successful trade with the Mountainhomes for several years, I have never received any nobility nor the option to promote from within. At first I thought the liaisons had died, but the liaison in each game is still around. Have the requirements for getting a baron changed? Is there something I'm missing? I have designed these opulent throne rooms, with fully working plumbing, and they feel so empty right now.
The second problem isn't really a gameplay issue: I've noticed that the dwarfort.exe process in Windows task manager on Vista and XP hangs around long after I've shut down DF. When I start DF again, a new process spawns. Killing the old processes in the Task Manager works fine; but if you never open your task manager, you'd never see the million dwarffort processes spamming the task list. I suppose I oughta head over to the bug reporter, sign up and report it. But I just wondered if any one else has noticed this odd behavior before I report something that may not be happening to many folks.
