heres the parameters

the file on civ populations is enlightening.  lets me see what kind of clown-types i have too.  I only genned 150 years of history, and at the moment theres only a few hundred goblins in the world spread across 5 settlements.  I wonder if that will be a problem.  heres a picture of the embark.  http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/Slothen/Silversiege-142-region1-128-7576.jpg  I didn't tweak the parameters to give more volcanoes, so it should be easy to find.


cliffs are fairly steep, theres a brook along the south edge of the map, and an aquifer covering part of the map a few z levels above the brook.  ample amounts of every mineral too.

Assuming you're running .13 or .14 (the two latest versions) you won't get goblins for ages.

My fort's been going four or five years with a population of over a hundred, but I haven't gotten any action in the form of goblins.


is your fort the only basis for saying this?

excellent post.  Does it explain this http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=33837.0 ?  I realize that link is 40d, but given your rules I don't see how this could be possible, unless the magma is placed in an open space before it falls to the ground.

sure, how can I find it?  If you can gen the same world the embark should be easy to find, since there is only a few volcanoes.

as for the spherical domes, I've never built a very large outdoor structure before, much less one made out of glass, or anything on the side of a cliff.  I think what I have planned is challenging enough.  I might put a dome on top though.  Or a dome on top of the volcano.

Its a shame magma doesn't melt iron then, or that'd be a damn good way to remove the impurities from goblinite. Dump everything into a pit, apply magma, drain magma, melt resulting globs!

Although if that were the case, I'm not sure what I'd make the floodgates out of...
thats exactly what you can do with it anyway.  Minus the turning to glob part.

i noticed that when using bones to decorate, an entire stack of bones would be used for one decoration.  To get more I decided to pit the warthogs off a cliff into my butcher shop so that they would be dismembered.  Its messy and more work for the butchers but each limb that comes off gives you an extra bone and an extra skin to be tanned to leather.  Warthogs are too big to be reliably moved around untamed, so make sure to build the cages next to the pit before pitting them.

i tried to make my miners a squad once, and it failed horribly.  they kept switching picks when and only wearing half armor.

i know if the ore is inaccessible or forbidden the option will disappear.  Other than that, I would try moving the ore to a stockpile near your smelters.
