Are you trying to pump in water from the bottom? Water pumps just generate water on the tile they pump to instead of creating a true flow, so no pressure will be generated and water won't be pushed upwards.

Do goblin snatchers pick their target when they spawn and beeline for it, or do they wander around until they see a child? If it's the first, the code probably isn't bothering to check that the the child hasn't matured since then.

The most efficient place to put the check would probably be at snatch-time, though it might make more sense to the player to allow the goblin to pick a new target midway through.

It's mostly driver issues, I've heard. I doubt that Dwarf Fortress is doing anything fancy, so it probably won't be an issue.

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to program in other thoughts like "haunt living" or "rise from grave"? The item linkage thing might be a good way to handle liches, as well.

I've gotten pretty much exactly the same thing with an elven trader in 33d. If it's a bug, I doubt it's unique to the newest release.

None of the cultures speak English, either, so longswords, axes, and hammers are out.

The values don't have to be fractional, you could use a full byte but still display the depth as 0-9.

It might be a good idea to make equippable bandages that would make the areas that they cover heal much faster, especially since that would tie in well with Fortress mode.

Of course, you could easily 'abuse' bridges in the same way, and all you would need to do is rig them up to a lever instead of actually disassembling them.

If anything, it would make sense for random choices to be normal for both building and crafting, and have specific choices be unlocked as an option by a noble.

This seems like it would be a good use for a noble. I was originally thinking about suggesting an Archivist who would give you control over which events get engraved (no more screaming dogs) in return for demanding that a certain portion of the fortress be engraved, but that could easily be expanded to custom engravings as well.
