DF General Discussion / Re: A question about a utility.

Heh, in this case, yes.  I believe everyone just refers to them as utilities because they are lumped under that title on the Wiki...  At least that's why I started calling them that.  Truth be told, I feel you should avoid the quick mining stuff, but hey, its not like they are hurting anyone, just making the game more enjoyable for themselves.

Indeed you could, heh, but you may as well just designate a 16X16 area with support and use the tool to mine that out instead.

Yes, it will collapse... I don't know why it was made that way, but there you go.  I suggest always using the designation method.

Awww... almost enough to get me a little misty eyed.  That was a wonderful article!

Man, guess not as many people found this as useful as I thought they would, heh.  Oh well.

Haha, no prob!  If I can only get this thrown on the wiki then I will truly have a swollen head   :)

Thanks   :)  Yeah, I don't really use most of these, I've used Granite a couple of time and the teleport more often then I probably should.  Dwarves get stuck on crap so much...  Yeah, mc2mr.exe is a nice little tool.  I've tested it and it seems to work.  I've also used the ore.exe tool when one of my dwarves got into a mood and wanted platinum but I couldn't seem to find it.  I couldn't afford to lose a potentially legendary metalsmith... so... yeah, I cheated.

Haha, yes, Boatmurdered.  Now you just need levers all over the place that activate random things.  So many that you manage to forget what they are attached to.

Yes, that is what I was talking about as well.  Its not too difficult, its just extremely tedious due to the number tags there are.  And with the possibility of everything changing soon, it might not even be all that useful.  Maybe I'll keep working on it, but I'm not terribly interested in modding, so probably not.

Well, I was starting to work on something for creatures, plants, etc. but with the new version (hopefully) coming out soon, it seemed like far too much tedious work if some of the stuff may end up changing.  We'll see what happens.

Also, I've noticed that with this GUI, the Ore making button isn't working properly.  It always makes iron ore for some reason.  I probably just effed up a string addition.  In any case, should be a super-simple fix and I'll get to it when I have a chance.

Edit: Fixed.

If you're tired of having to load up the cmd console every time one of your children gets stuck on a forge so you can teleport them, or if you just want to cheat more efficiently, give this little program a shot:
DFUtility.zip

Just load up your fortress, start DFUtil.exe and there ya go.
NOTE: The AdjustStart feature has to be used on the main menu of DF.
NOTE 2: You need the .net runtimes to use this.

Its silly, questionably useful, and has a terrible layout (done with VB).  Also, I didn't write any of the actual utilities, I just run them from the main program.  So all the real credit goes to:

Erasmus Darwin
Rick
AzureLightning

If anyone feels I should take this down, let me know. Screens maybe coming soon.

Edit: Sorry, its broken at this time, the ore button doesn't make anything other than iron.  Fix coming soon.

Edit: Fixed, and now with documentation.

Haha, awesome, Locus.  I followed a good deal of the tale of Boatmurdered.  Somehow I missed that picture of Sankis, oh the memories!  Everyone knew that fortress was doomed from the beginning, especially with all the political craziness going on.

Well, there we go.  Send links to the tools that you may have been using, and they should be able to compare the hash codes of those tools to the one that flagged you for banning.  I highly doubt that all VAC2 bans are permanent.  Also, I again have to wonder, if hash-codes are use, its very unlikely that it gave a false positive on a DF utility, and leads me to believe something else was running, possibly without you knowing.  I've heard of a "wall-hack" tool for Counter-strike that lets you pass through walls but only in observer mode, that lead to some bannings. You wouldn't happen to have been using that tool would you?

Edit:  Actually, there's something on the WIKI about it(X-Spectate)--VAC  Apparently they removed those bans and now it only kicks you from a server if you are running it, so nevermind.
