Yeah, I agree it should be added, but while we already have external things that do it, it doesn't really need to be added until much later on, when and if toady every polishes up and finishes the game.

« on: September 20, 2010, 06:40:43 am »Artifact crossbow's are not useless at all. Neither is furniture, which can be set around for added happiness to dwarves and nobles.
Quality multiplier of 120. That's ten times masterwork. And the display case mod even allows shitty artifact crafts or armor to be valuable happiness-generators.
It also, increases fortress wealth massively. Which you can take as a good or bad thing.

Alergies and preferences sound like a perfectly valid addition however.
But then first the cooking system needs an overhaul. Currently the Cooks serve "several random things thrown together Roast" or nothing.
We could do them at the same time, though they are slightly different, overhaul cooking and then add allergies.

« on: September 19, 2010, 08:49:30 pm »Just a random idea here, but if you had the hauling power, you could have a 'sorting stockpile' set up to accept all goods or w/e. Through some extension of the take from stockpile option we already have, and some manager options, you could basically have a stockpile that gathered all your crafts, then haulers sort through bins, reorganise them into type and finally haul them over to the correct stockpiles.
So each craft shop dumps into a general bin, this is hauled when full, put in a sorting area, and then haulers sort out the contents and send them on their way.
Couldn't you do that currently, with the take from stockpile option? I don't know I've never used it but I thought you could.

I also tend to buy a lot of gems, and use them a lot, so I would have to constantly check for them.I always thought it was the order you get them in, but I did notice glass was always the bottom of mine. So I don't know.
A side note, BTW: Is there some logic in what order the gems appear in th jewelers workshop list?

Maybe, but we don't need to get into illegal drugs, that just seems to far for dwarf fort, we don't need to make a political statement.
I don't see why this would be needed, but I mean, it could exists, as a little thing you can do to make dwarfs happy. Dwarfs buy pipes, and smoke when they are on break or something. Works for me.

Maybe we could have a profile for Manager, where he keeps one bin for each type of object, and only replaces it when it's full, half full, or whatever we set it too. That seems to make the most sense. You know, like divide by material, or divide by type.
Or you could even have a copy of the stockpile screen, where you just suggest what he bins, and everything else is carted off normally.

I like this. Instead of assigning barrels to stockpiles we could assign them to workshops. It would improve fort efficiency massively.

I think this is kind of already being planned from something toady said about, having a reason behind your embark, which would change the embark options, like giving you soldiers and extra dwarfs, or very few dwarfs and lots of supplies like a few dwarfs ransacking an old lost fort, and taking everything or something. So I guess adding something like, during embark, half your dwarfs died, or a human caravan has joined you for protection, or something weird. Though I always assumed you were choosing what you have left after embark, like you brought enough supplies for the journey plus this.

I think it could make sense to have dwarfs party for things such as completion of a public royal dinning hall, or a hospital, or a dormitory. Something that suits the public. Though theres gonna have to be a limit, we dont want dwarfs partying after each chair is added to a dinning room, or celebrating the irrigation of every single farm plot one after another.
Maybe we could have mayor run, and player implemented fort wide holidays, which we can designate like, party over here kinda thing, and give are dwarfs happy points and social points depending on how good the surroundings are. Also parties for births. And maybe funerals for deaths. Funerals would alleviate the happy loss from a death, it would be like lost a friend recently, had an honorable funeral for a friend.
