DF Gameplay Questions / Re: When you find magma you...

What's the difference between 40 levels down and 40 steps north or east?

I guess if you use stairs straight up everywhere. Then nothing? The farther it is the more time dwarfs waste walking then working.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Magma Pump

With temperature off. I pumped magma 100 z levels with wood. Nothing FUN ever happened. It all worked.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: New Version Way Less Forgiving?

Yeah and goblins can come really fast now. And in massive numbers. I generally have a line or two of cage traps before the first years up, and a way to lock down my fort, and an early warning system by winter of year 2. You got to prepare for invasion immediately.

I'm just lending my support.

DF Suggestions / Re: Armor + mechanism = prosthetic
« on: August 13, 2010, 03:24:00 pm »
Hell we might not even need mechanisms. I mean wood stuffed into a boot, and stuck on like a stump leg. Would be indecipherable besides the limp, and probably make you happier. It wouldnt give you back much more functionality then a crutch but it still seems legitimate to me.

DF Suggestions / Re: Involvement of weapons in wrestleing

The body part DOES get grasped, you can strangle creatures to death with a sword if you choose to in the wtrestle menu.

Athough your right, if I tried it strangle somone with a sword Im pretty sure I would just end up tearing the throat.

Broad side, backside, Guard, Handle, Pummel, Embellishments...
menacing spikes of pig tail.

What about tower of babel? Would be rather epic.

As plants clearly attract most attention it sounds like a good idea to start thinking up some plants that might do well in certain tempretures ranges.

It is quite likely that a lot of plants will have to be traded. And it might be better if we get rid of the seasons thing and replace it by tempreture only (you can still select what plant grows when). This would mean that if I want to grow pig tail all year round I can do that.

Now some plants:
Magma root: A plant that need extreme heat produces a very high quility food.
Snowbery: A plant that only grow in very cold areas producies snowberies a medium quility food and usable for white dye.
Cave grass:Plant that grows in almost all conditions. Can be milled to make a very low quility food and can be used for low quility fibers.
Bat leaf: A black leafed plant that does best in medium tempreture caves, used to make black dye.
Caveman wheat: A wheat that grows in slightly high tempreture caves, Can be milled to make a high quility and high amout of food.
Heatbite: A rare plant which produces a small amout of heat lives in very high tempreture areas, Can be made into poison when it's implented.
Lead berries: Plant that grows in low tempreture areas can be used to make dye.

You should think about what alcohols those make aswell. Like evercold wine or something for snowbery. Which would be nearly as good as sunshine, cause everybody likes their alcohol cold. And something equally as valuable for magma root because it would take a bit of work to get so the value should reflect that effort. Though maybe it would make dwarfs more happy to eat it then to drink it, cause of its properties.

I'm just gonna saw I agree with you on pretty much everything. If were losing the fps already may as well. Also I'd love a plant that only grows beside magma. That would be awesome.

DF Suggestions / Re: Different tantrum
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:54:05 pm »
The should not get a bad through from seeing unhappy dwarfs. I can just imagine. Dwarfs doesnt sleep in his bed because he's bugged gets unhappy cause he "doesnt have a room". He walks into the dinning hall and gets the whole fort unhappy, tantrum spiral kills them all. Or something like slightly happy dwarf has to join the army gets sad, picks up with axe walks to the barracks gets the whole military upset. You just lost a fort.

DF Suggestions / Re: Diseases and medicine
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:50:08 pm »
Well gnomeblight is planned to become a strong poison I don't think you would want that in a medicine.
Futhermore antibiotics weren't known at the time (some people care for this but not me just be prepared for it.)
In general I think dwarfs would need their own medicine not human like medicines.

Penicillin comes from Penicillium Chrysogenum which is a mold that grows inside on food. Its only reasonably that a race that lives inside 90% of the time would discover that before humans would. And elves probably never would.

I mean they live in caves and eat fungus.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: This game needs Thermite.
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:38:34 pm »
Is magma hot enough to ignite thermite?

Probably. I still see no use for thermite. All it would do was kill your own dwarfs. Which while people want it. I have no clue what you'd do with it. Hell I can make it, but I never have cause theres nothing to do with it.

Pick up mud and throw it at whatever was attacking you till it dies. Then fast travel. That or throw your sword.

I cant be certain. But I assumed you just assigned as man as you can spar under the military menu. I had i think 7-8 and he didn't have a problem, on my fort of 80. I dont know much more. I had a lot of fun, accidental realizing I pierced a my lava forge from below, and flooded the bottom half of my fort with lava, and while making my prison for him.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bronze Age

Okay thanks everyone. I'll look for some igneous intrusive layers and import/start with as much as I can. Thanks a lot. I always have to many embark points left over anyways.
