Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: You are a Nanite! (Again)

You'll need some way of heating the material to be smelted. You have your radio/microwave emitter, but the smelter doesn't come with a heat source. Additionally, the atmosphere is unnaturally dry. There is virtually no water in the air. I promise there's a justification for this.

I have no idea. My knowledge of chemistry is pretty basic. Wouldn't you need a source of hydrogen to produce the methane?

You return to your spires, but you can only carry a single unit of marble(I'm simply going to call CaCO3 that for now). You produce an additional two circuit makers. You do not have the resources to construct anything else.

The orange material is dead, and was dead when you first discovered it.

You dig into the calcium carbonate, but it is solid as far as you can go in a single arbitrary time increment.

Play With Your Buddies / Let's Play: Prophecy of Pendor
« on: June 25, 2012, 10:22:08 pm »
PoP 3.5 is out, and with that, savegame incompatibility! So, I thought it would be perfect timing to do an LP. I've never done one before, so it may get a bit messy.

To start with, for those of you who are unfamiliar with it:

Prophecy of Pendor is a total conversion mod for Mount and Blade. The location in which the game takes place, strangely enough, is known as Pendor. It is bounded by mountains inhabited by the wild Mistmountain Raiders to the north, the enigmatic Noldor to the east, and the sea to the west and south. It is divided between five major factions: The Empire is in the southeast, loosely based on Rome, and plagued by a murderous religious group known as the Snake Cult. They have decent but expensive infantry, and little cavalry. Their crossbowmen are the best in Pendor. To the west are the Dshar, former nomads who settled down on the borders of a great desert. Their top tier infantry are unmatched at offense, but rather fragile and extremely expensive and difficult to acquire. In the west, to the north of the Dshar, are the Fierdsvain, who are essentially vikings. Their strength is in their infantry, again, though theirs seem more survivable than the Empire or the Dshar, and throwing weapons. Their archers are mediocre at best, and their only decent cavalry unit are the noble Valkyries, their equivalent of knights. In the far north of Pendor is the kingdom of Ravenstern. Their archers are second only to the Noldor, and their troops are cheap and versatile. However, their infantry and cavalry do not excel in any one area, and will almost certainly be defeated by an equivalent force suited to the combat. Last is the Kingdom of Sarleon, in the dead center of the map. They have cheap, versatile infantry as well, and the strongest cavalry of all five factions. Their archers are better than those of the Fierdsvain and Dshar, but no match for Ravenstern Rangers. The sixth faction, defunct at the beginning of the game, is the Kingdom of Pendor. I haven't had a chance to really use their units, but they seem to be very strong defensively.

Now there are a few choices to make:

I'll be going with a male character simply because I like having characters that look like me. The other background choices are:

               Your father was:
                    A displaced minor noble
                    A merchant captain
                    An outlawed knight
                    A retired adventurer
                    A banished Dshar chieftan's son
                    A mysterious figure
               As a child you:
                    Served a minor noble
                    Became a craftsman's apprentice
                    Became a merchant's helper
Were left to fend for yourself
                    Hunted in the wilds
               You then became:
                    A squire
                    A bard
                    A scholar
                    A merchant
                    A builder
                    A hunter
                You left for Pendor :
                    To seek revenge
Because of a loved one's death
                    Because of wanderlust
Because you were forced from your home
Because of the lure of adventure and gold
                You leave for:
                    Ravenstern
                    Sarleon
                    The Dshar
                    The Empire
                    The Fierdsvain

I'm going to let you guys make most of the decisions with a few major rules;
I'm not doing anything I think is outright stupid, regardless of how much support it gets. That means no attacking Noldor without several times their numbers.
I'm not going without a horse if one is available.
I'm not using a crossbow or throwing weapons. Absolutely terrible with both

Alright, that's all. I'll start playing once I feel enough people have voted on the above choices.

I'll also vote A. Otherwise, I endorse Ukranian Ranger's character.

Just a note- the name of the game is Slash'em, not chained blitz, and it's a mod for nethack.

It isn't really DIY, but Fall from Heaven II, a civ 4 mod, offers quite a bit of available magic, and you can stack spells and enchantments on units basically however you like onto basically any unit, making for some interesting combinations.

Better yet, remove all the water from the bipeds. We can then delay research as long as we need to, and also gain more water.

Additionally, we should look for some sort of lichen or other organism the bipeds have introduced as part of their terraforming.

I loved the old zoo tycoon games, roller coaster tycoon, etc. Anything where you build some sort of business or institution to make as much money as possible. I don't have a lot of cash available at the moment, so does anyone know of free games of that sort?

Are we capable of synthesizing matter from energy? And can our fusion reactor support that? If so, we could simply generate essential elements that way.

Can the nurse extract substances from the air as well? If so, we should harvest some carbon dioxide and break it up into carbon and oxygen. We should be able to use the carbon to feed the plants better.

Well, the issue is, it would radiate away faster than we could sustain it, unless we had access to a large, large amount of nutrition. Fusion is really our best bet for power, if we can build more reactors. As for lacking heat, these drones don't appear to need sleep or much sustenance. We can just have one dig indefinitely until it heats up, and then convection will take care of our problems.

You take a small sample of the substance. It appears to be composed primarily of calcium carbonate.

You do so, and move spire-north. The aluminum surface slowly curves over, but your small size allows you to scale it without difficulty. It then abruptly levels off to a flat aluminum surface, followed by a large expanse of some unknown substance.

You attempt to detect a magnetic field, but oddly enough, there isn't one. Of course there are a few local ones, but not the all encompassing, consistent one you would expect from a planet.

If we have any non-human corpses left, we can extract water from them and use the hydrogen to fuel the generator. A single body should keep it going for years, considering how small our energy needs are. Fusion should take care of all our heat problems, at least while the nest is small. We can also use geothermal energy, hence the borehole.
