From the mouth of the late George Carlin...

DF General Discussion / Kobold & Goblin Co-existence!? + more...
« on: May 25, 2011, 06:18:31 am »
Currently using ver31.25 unmodded aside from some things I added/edited to the Kobold RAWs so they survive through world gen with stuff like:
Code: [Select]
[DEFAULT_SITE_TYPE:CAVE]
[LIKES_SITE:CAVE]
[TOLERATES_SITE:CAVE]
[TOLERATES_SITE:CAVE_DETAILED]
[TOLERATES_SITE:TREE_CITY]
[OUTDOOR_WOOD]
[OUTDOOR_FARMING]
[INDOOR_FARMING]
[USE_ANY_PET_RACE]
[COMMON_DOMESTIC_PULL]
[COMMON_DOMESTIC_MOUNT]
[COMMON_DOMESTIC_PET]
- Some additional jobs like Fisherman, Milker, etc., Uses Good and Evil plants and animals, doubled Population number.

[INTELLIGENT][LIKES_FIGHTING]
[UTTERANCES][MISCHIEVIOUS]
[BONECARN][PET][TRAINABLE]
- And some other little stuff like descrptions and looks

I left their Ethics as is...and yet there was some unforeseen effects in the 3 worlds I genned, aged 50-100 years:
- Instead of trying to live their lives in their caves, they instead decided to merge civs with the Goblins. The Civ, groups, locations & it's citizens now has giberish names and both entities live in their Dark Kobold Fortresses together.

- They also joined the Gobs in baby snatching & murdering as well as getting ranks such as Law-givers, War Leaders & Generals (Sometimes even compelling the creation of the position with threats of violence, like Demons!)...though I guess they've stopped being thieves seeing as that they grow and make things now.

- They also make most of the footsoldiers/mooks in their wars but they don't eat the fallen (The Gobs stopped doing it too). Demon led attacks still brutalized the losers though.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And Kobold couples giving birth to Goblins....wait....what? Some Gobs also give birth to cutebolds?! So...uh..."life finds a way"?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Hmm...I guess the whole Civ merge was also true in certain senses too...they still give birth normaly though. But still...Kobolds giving birth to an immortal? Freaky...

Would have tried to check them out in Adventure mode but I remembered that Dark Fortressess exist in "parallel dimensions" there. Fortress mode might get more entertaining though...might actually see Kobolds riding giant scorpions or flying giant bats in sieges. No more ninja thieves though...

And now something extra...a Goblin was born in the midst of my experiments that did something... entertaining so to speak.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hopefully toady removes boogeymen and just turns the night creatures into random encounters at night, instead of a constant useless spam.
They are (kinda') random nightly encounters...their tendency to catch you in inappropriate moments is built in-game, which is commonly known as "DF being a dick".

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Throwing with wrestling
« on: May 20, 2011, 07:44:21 pm »
ok next question, is it possible to propel creatures away with body attacks of any kind?

for that matter, is it even still possible in 2010?
Toady has apparently made things a bit more realistic now, so certain factors are important like the creature's overall size, weight, etc...

For example, a Bronze Colossus can punch and throw most humanoids a certain distance at times, especially throwing small critters. So dwarves and such are really somewhat limited in their abilities compared to the days of Cacame or Boatmurdered where legendaries can punt horses over mountains.

I fall under the class of Necromancer.
I'm pretty sure you've already went beyond that and have become a full fledged Evil Overlord of whatever world you've got as your "test lab". Now you've got to create a new adventurer/s to play "Heroes", train them up to badass levels and then return as Sauron incarnate with your dark army...

Mmm, how about roleplaying with an army of wild animals? Playing Pied Piper of Hamelin might more amusing...but instead of rats you've got beavers, monkeys or birds. Yay rabies!

Man, half way through volume 10 of Shin Angyo Onshi and the situation is just getting worse and worse.  Classic.17 was horrible in that regard.
Guess your ride's more than halfway over...but I assure you that the fun "loops" and "dives" of that rollercoaster's gonna' get more interesting (I remmeber not being used to korean names and got kinda' weirded me out/confused at first).

Oh, and dont' forget to read the Shin Angyo Onshi Gaiden after finishing the main story...those side stories were awesome as well.

At your age, I can only recommend Last Exile without feeling like I'm offering up a mind-raping to an innocent =/
Ahw, c'mon now...brainwashing is fun! Oh and I also recommend that show...

Baccano! is also a fun ride...You'll end up wanting more. But there will probably never be an awesome new season because it's not...I dunno'..."mainstream" enough for Japan I guess.

I can only imagine myself yelling at the screen "WHY DIDN'T YOU STAY IN RACOON CITY!?"
Need a "I survived this hunted town and all I got was this lousy curse" T-shirt?

Wait....if theoretically, your fallen champion adventurer can also be turned undead if she/he dies in certain places...you can "play" with it in your next form! But I guess it won't be fun if your reanimated corpse is limbless when you died and is left gnawing in the ground (unless your were legendary biter and can evade by squirming in the ground).

I did, however, have one hilarious incident of an elven prisoner giving birth, and the child was friendly, but everyone was scared of it as if it were a hostile.  I WAS able to tame this child, and the tame elf child acted like a wild creature, wandering semi-aimlessly and causing job cancels.
Congratulations...you now have an Elven Denis the Menace running around...Mr. Wilson McOldmanrage will need to be notified.

Another interesting possibility of a Necromancer "visiting" is that he/she has heard of your Legendary Badass Dwarf deep within your fortress and he wants a sturdy new bodyguard...

...Or maybe the necromancer brought some "new recruits" to test them out (he got the bodies from Gemesh Giken, the Conflict of Lightning and Tholtig Cryptbrain the Waning Diamonds is one of "them". Ooooh, a challenge...).

Wouldn't it be nice if the evil one brought the reanimated wife of Cacame just to spite him?

236
Would be more interesting if the Necromancer reanimated the corpses of your fallen dorfs to be their puppets and their lingering ghosts gets pissed at 'em...

"What the...?!?!...That's my body you corpse f*****r~!"

Just your average adventure, bashin' skulls, frozen in ice.

Basically what most adventurers life cycle looked like in the old days. It's starting to get a bit more varied now...

Macross Frontier was awesome, anyone else like that one?
Love it...Transforming,missile spewing, mecha jets, songs and a love triangle saves the galaxy. The movie was quite nice itself despite it's little tweaks.

^KOBOLD RAAAAAAAAAAGE!
Kobold Thieves are somewhat known to be DF in-universe ninjas. The rookies get eaten by dogs while the veterans can outrun all your guards and jump over all standard traps.

They also mostly follow the "Inverse Ninja Rules"...if there's only one, expect it to be badass. A group can be easily massacred.

What is a difference between retired and abandoned for you? :)
I guess for him "Retired" is when you just get bored of it while "Abandoned" is when one is not dwarfy enough to see the blood fillled, fire related end through.
