DF Modding / Re: DF2010 Inquiry - thread from hair

Hooves are considered horns for crafting purposes, as far as I know.

Ability to set fires and select supplies to haul back when sacking a site
Will this include creatures as well? I really want to rescue my kidnapped children and enslave any goblins not fortunate enough to die in battle.

I'd love to have another method for dealing with discarded socks, besides magma. If it wasn't for the protective (however minor) aspect of clothes, I would not bother with them at all.

The problem with open source projects is that when people talk about the features they want in the software they are often along the lines of:

"We should implement A."

When they really should say:

"I will implement A."

I voted yes. Accumulation of waste should be a major obstacle to overcome when an enemy army sieges my fort. When I cannot just dump it outside.

And I want to build proper, functional sewers.

Metal piercing attacks for xenomorphs and the other stuff are kinda nice. But will it not make power armour pointless? In Fallout the power armour makes one a walking tank. I am all for simple metal armour and security jackets losing to the bigger beasts such as deathclaws. And even power armour should not make one invulnerable to everything. But I feel it should be nearly perfect protection against all but the biggest and meanest adversaries, such as the aforementioned cyberdemons. Furthermore every power armour I've read about, including the Fallout version, has been sealed which should make it an absolute defence against poison gas, acids and such unless it is damaged.

Now wouldn't it be awesome if some "thing" consisting of boiling steel attacked your fortress? Imagine the Fun potential.

Dwarves can add decorations to items such as an "image of dwarves in cave spider silk" and the like. Unfortunately blocks cannot be decorated, as far as I know.

The kinetic energy of an object is E=1/2*m*v^2 where v is the object's velocity. So if the damage calculation tracks the velocity, increasing it should increase damage too.

Also, which one is better for melee weapons, stainless or carbon steel? Is there even a significant difference?

Have you considered a nuclear reactor? At least Vault City and their ghoul neighbours and Enclave used nuclear power in Fallout 2. And I suppose if Vault City did, most if not all other vaults did as well. Broken Hills was a town that mined and exported uranium.

It should be a fairly large building and require many scavenged parts to build. It should not be something that can be constructed from the very beginning with default embark points.

Perhaps make the reaction that creates depleted uranium (U238) also create a lesser amount of "uranium fuel rods" or something similar, U235 in any case. Or make a separate reaction that takes multiple pitchblende so one has to make a decision if they want ammunition or fuel.

Now as what it might do. Perhaps it would take U235 fuel and turn it into power cells, which could be used as an alternative fuel of sorts in certain reactions. Extracting aluminium from bauxite is done with electricity for example. This could save precious coke for things that cannot be made without, such as carbon steel. Or it might just produce coke as it sort of a generic fuel in Dwarf Fortress. In any case, one pitchblende should be worth quite a bit of fuel as otherwise it would not be worth the investment.

Perhaps every time the reactor is used, it could also create a rock that boils immediately in room temperature and causes some kind of syndrome to emulate radiation. However it should be fairly easy to resist or have a minor but cumulative effect (if possible) because a properly built, maintained and operated nuclear reactor is quite safe.

That's okay. My game has ground to a halt, sadly. And I had only just begun digging the hole I need.

I need more drills. And I need an immigrant gem cutter. Last time I start without one.

Is it possible to increase the velocity of the projectile?

I like the new character set. It makes my constructed walls remind me of the buildings in Vault City and New California Republic. The white ones. More fallout == more fun (and possibly Fun).

Mushroom soup is not listed as food. Is it edible? Also, density of lead is wrong. I think it should be:
Code: [Select]
[SOLID_DENSITY:11340]
[LIQUID_DENSITY:10660]

192
Which parts of the body does a power armour protect? Just the torso? Or limbs? Extremities? Head?

193
The density of depleted uranium is equal to steel. Is this intentional? According to Wikipedia Uranium is nearly as dense as gold.

194
Awesome. Thank you very much. The new stuff looks very interesting too. Depleted uranium ammo in particular.

I could not extract the .zip correctly, for whatever reason. One application gave me error messages and another did not show the contents of the .zip at all. Odd, considering I can extract your Genesis mod without problems. Do you have any advice?
