DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What are your Nobles like?

I have only gotten a baron once in a .31 version.  It was back in version .31.12, I believe.  I haven't been offered a barony since.

I enjoy putting the low-quality copper trap components my trainee weaponsmiths make along with low-quality mechanisms from my trainee mechanics make in my weapon traps.  That way, when the enemies dodge/are knocked to the side by the trap, they fall down the ~7z pit onto the masterwork steel spikes my master weaponsmiths make.

Fun fact: "impalement on spikes" is an event that ends up in engravings!

That may be a way to do it. It's way too late to try now,

EDIT: no more fort. Not even time for a tantrum spiral. Thanks for playing, Legendcryptians!  :D

Yeah, melee dwarves in general tend to get wrecked by any type of demon.  They do make excellent meatshields for your marksdwarves, though.  And marksdwarves are brutally effective against powder-based demons.

Just started setting up my main entrance.  It consists of a one-tile wide strip of land over a 7z pit.  The land has weapon traps on them, and at the bottom of the pit are upright spike traps.  I'm waiting for the next goblin attack so I can test it out.  It should be pretty fun.

Yeah, I just tested it in the arena- you're going to have to use a steel weapon. You should eventually be able to cause its death through the "accumulated damage" effect Toady put in a while back so that people could kill the previously-invincible undead, though.

Wait, wait, what?!
You can extinguish fires?!?
How??

Presumably by pouring water on them.  Or maybe by removing any fuel source.

My second quest for my new swordsman was to kill a bandit leader.  I did that.  I also ended up killing his 32 companions and let two run away to spread the news (read: forgot to kill them because I was looting).  Only one of my peasant companions survived, and he had passed out at the beginning of the battle.  I totally imagine that scene...

Specut Gladesearch (The Escorted Truth of Dripping), Peasant: Argh, I am wounded! *faints*
*some time later*
Specut Gladesearch (The Escorted Truth of Dripping): *wakes up, sees pile of corpses and my adventurer absoultely covered in blood* Uhhh, what happened?
Me: Don't worry about it. *Resumes looting corpses*

Did you set the squad to "active" in the "alerts" section of the military screen?

Does he want stone, or stone blocks?  I mixed that up once.  I only realized my mistake when I made some stone blocks for something else and the mood dwarf took one.

That happened to me once.  Since then, if it's close to night I'll just sleep in the lair.  Either it counts as shelter, or I've gotten lucky a few times.

Just get some companions and don't travel at night if you can help it.

Wow.  I'm glad you haven't made my next guy yet, otherwise he'd probably be dead by now.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you could magma purge the path to the ocean fort, build a shelter there for the healthy dwarves, and then try to wait out the plague?  I remember one succession fort I was in where a demon infected much of the fortress with deadly dust, so we ended up sealing off the surviving dwarves, waiting for goblin ambushes to kill all of the demons, and then sending out fully-armored masons to build constructed floors over contaminated tiles.  We then dumped the contaminated armor into a lava pit.

Just when you think you're doing well, the game just kicks you in the teeth...

I've always been lucky with FB poisons.  Usually I've been able to avoid anyone getting infected, and the one time I didn't, the disease made my military totally immune to pain.

I've found two such caves with the weird-material tools as well, and I've also seen night creatures have these tools as well.  I've also the same tools made of "normal" materials (copper, iron, etc.) in human villages.  One theory I have is that it's the result of something in the civilization tag making them have tools, but of an unrestricted material, so that they get rock or gem tools.

Either that, or it's the result of thieving and the chance of gem cutting producing random gem crafts that kobolds are attracted to, which includes tools.  Of course, this can only be true if crafting and thieving happens in worldgen, and the objects are tracked.
