DF Gameplay Questions / Are danger rooms actually dangerous now?

This happened twice, to two separate dwarves. Last time I played (Admittedly quite a few updates ago) danger rooms basically never killed fully grown dwarves. Did Toady buff training spears?

DF Suggestions / Usage for wax

Making candles or something similar. They could prevent (or resist) cave adaptation sickness for dwarves who are regularly exposed to them.
