How do you do it. I used to toss the gobblins down a pit of despair into my magma forge area that would flood with magma, burn away all the impurities and leave just metal, then I'd drain it. But there was a bug where the metal would get "caught" in the glass grates I had in place and were never retrievable. So Id rather toss the goblins into a deep pit and turn them into bolts

I have 110 dwarves and 6 skilled soldiers. My defense has been lacking but I read somewhere that making everyone a hunter would keep my idle meat shields armed with a ranged defense. Does this actually work?, cause I def have the word to churn out 100 xbows and Ive been stockpiling masterwork bone bolts as a by product of my previous hunting and meat industry.

Id almost be willing to take out all my traps and watch an ambush walk into my main hall of 60 idle sheep with crossbows just to watch the carnage.

Why not just unforbid their metal stuff with the stocks menu, then mark it all for melting without having to deal with their clothing at all?

Thats what I usually do, its just time consuming.


Also, I use copper to train smiths.

Since cage traps are the most abundant form of defense for my fortress, I always end up with a large surplus of goblins equipped with precious metal. What I usually do is strip them of all their metal belongings by dumping then reclaiming them through stocks menu and then assign each prisoner to a pit which contains magma. But this process is quite cumbersome, especially when dumping all that equipment then reclaiming it. So I've come up with an idea of a magma chamber to dump the prisoners into, then drain the magma through grates once all but molten metal is left. Would this work? Is molten copper usable? Can you think of a more efficient way of reclaiming all their weapons and armor to be smelted? I thought about using glass serrated disk traps but I don't feel like keeping all that dumb rubbish clothes, but I could use the goblin bones.

I'm having trouble finding iron in .25. Is there a way to change the embark screen to look like what it used to? I've even tried removing all aquifers and adding iron to all mineral layers in the raws, but the game crashes on embark :/

Well I figured out why, it was cause the foresters had all the axes in use.

Another question, how do I get my military to stay in damned uniform when they are inactive? The option in the schedule isn't doing squat.

I have a bug right now where a child dwarf keeps trying to use the hospital soap (well that and every other soap he can find), but he can't. Says he can't clean self because the area is inaccessible.. weird.

Great fix to for this is make a channel before any "hotspot" that dwarves hang out in, then fill it with at most 3/7 water. Basically forces every dwarf to take a dip before getting somewhere. This washes them off and stops that dreaded spam.

This is so weird. How does this work lol? I created a world and embarked as vermin that live in water. Everyone suffocated within seconds. My pet flys survived tho....

If I recall correctly, bulls can still release spores while in a cage and impregnate uncaged cows. Is this still true?
