The Roguelike Omega also has an additional, "put yourself in the game" mode. In addition to not climbing mountains, I shouldn't explore orchid hedges or jump into pools of chaos!

I don't want to cheat... I think I'm going to have to get into better shape to play Wilderness.

... name was Nancy Dole...
Is it just me or does the name "Nancy" appear to be common? I haven't downloaded the game yet, but whatever is targeted in the promo screenshot is also named Nancy.

It does seem to be. It's pretty strange to see a ton of giant spiders with very normal Human names.

Survival Kids is really fun, actually. I spent a morning playing it and really enjoyed it.

This Wilderness game looks fascinating. The realism is just going to get me killed faster, though. My heart rate is like... 63.

Ech, the graphics are atrocious now. I can hardly ever get into a game that uses a Windows GUI like that... here's hoping the gameplay makes up for it.

Edit: Errp. I need to give it more time, but... I targeted a spider and the info box informed me the hostile fire-spider's name was Nancy Dole...

I think there's less effect... I never fully experimented with it, but you have less to lose as an orphan than a full player. Maybe an admin can correct me on this!

Edit: By which I mean you can't gain experience or get better at things. If you stab somebody to death, they'll die.

426
Oh yeah. Make sure you tried anything silly you want to try, as an Orphan, while there are no repercussions for doing so!

427
who was the guy who was letting us stay at his "safe apartment"?

That was Dakk here, or Kaleh in game. He has two, I think.

I always find it funny in open-ended games like Dwarf Fortress and HellMOO, that at no time does the game say "your mission is to murder the world with lava!" or "you must butcher every orphan into fine, thin strips!" ... people end up thinking of doing it on their own. XD

I just went nuts in the Orphanage. Oh if I can only say the things I did to little Tommy there... It was glorious.

I have a feeling you're going to have a lot of Torture IP.

428
Uh yeah, how do you report griefers?

I'm not sure. Zotnet possibly? "zotnet on" then "zot Hey, Urist keeps killing me!"

I thought the Beautifully-carved Crack Statue in the Crack mansion was a Dwarf Fortress reference.

I'm wondering what the meaning of that thing is. I can't destroy it.

Well my character is 17 and I have definitely not been playing for more than 4 months.

Mutations make you age faster, for one thing. I think other things do, too, like dying, but I can't recall. It's possible to lower your age, so if you see somebody very young, don't assume they can't kick your ass.

The only thing I have to stress is update your clone dear god. I was in a corp-mate's apartment last night and one of his dozing roomates attacked me for some reason, and I hadn't updated in a while. It's agonizing despite its ease to avoid!

AOL wasn't nearly as bad back then, from what I hazily remember. I remember actually enjoying the service a little.

You'll have to forgive the PCs. I think sometimes they don't know when they're killing an NPC orphan or a player orphan. I'm pretty sure this is an intentional, hilarious feature.

For instance:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can hang around you and make sure no PCs try to mess with you, if you like.

Anyone, feel free to PM me with questions while I'm on, with 'Julian Huzzah!

Yeah, they take a lot of time to get used to, a lot like ASCII roguelikes. Sadly, the experiences didn't overlap for me, and each took a long time.

EDIT: If I don't respond, spam the hell out of me. Sometimes it gets lost in the information flow, or I'm AFK.

I haven't seen a post by you in ages. Also, your avatar freaks me out a little. It sees into my soul.

Tahin: It's pretty unique... also, I saw you for a second (I'm Julian) and you were also found dead once!

Trorbes: You'll probably need to eventually, or at least make your own with only you in it. Corps can get contracts, contracts pay you for doing things or killing things. The fact that corporations still rule the world is true in the fact that almost every player is in one and works for one.

But you can still make your own and get contracts that way. You *could* do without them entirely, but that closes some doors, and you can't get into corpclave.

Broose: I'm not sure how much it'd cost in money or XP, but you can find out. Type 'sc' and look under "Improve" -- that's how much free XP you require to learn it up a rank, if I recall. You can also see how much free XP you have from that command.

434
How odd. I suggest switching to berserk and killing them as fast as possible. FLCF, eh? Hmm...

435
Khol: Oh. @_@

Broose: Hum. I guess that depends on who was punching you. What's your fighting style? It ranges from pacifist, cautious (I think), normal, aggressive, berserk. Type "fight x" for one of them. If something charges up for a power attack, time a 'dodge' to avoid it. Make use of 'feint' on sentient opponents to stun them; this works if you have higher brains than they do. High brains characters can feint well!

We could probably get you some armor without much trouble.
