DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: June 26, 2010, 09:58:08 pm »
I'm stumped with what to do with my current fort. My original megaproject plan to build a towering lighthouse has been ruined due to map having only 15 above ground Z levels. Once I'm finish building the nobles housing I won't have much to do with my legion of masons, and that it simply unacceptable. So does anyone have any ideas for megaprojects that wouldn't require more than 14 above ground z levels?

Build a Tower to the tallest Z-Level and then put a ceiling over the map.

Bonus: Find a way to make it out of Obsidian so that you can set it up to collapse.

Anyways, my fort just got a 21 Migrant wave to get to my Pop Cap of 40. I'm currently running at 17(10), which ain't bad considering. :)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No immigration without caravans?

No important leaders means the civ is dead. You are the last Dwarves in that civilization. Even if a Caravan came you'd get no immigrants. Now, get to repopulating the world with Dwarves!

Do NOT make them Active. Just leave them Inactive and they will eventually start doing Individual Combat Drills.

W.T.F? So apparently I'm mining FAR more than I'm Smithing, and now there is some rookie trying to take my Smithing away from me? *FuzzyDoom has gone Berserk!*

If you mean Giant Rats (which aren't vermin), you can view the animal's preferences screen and select them for slaughter, v -> find the rats -> i -> s. You could also mark them for slaughter in the animals screen, z -> enter -> find the rats in the list -> b.

I think it was Giant Rats. What's the point of Capturing Small Land Animals and Taming them if not to eat them? Who wants a pet rat anyways?

I've been having a lot of luck with my current fort. When I embarked, I noticed I had a very agile, very strong, tough, and indefatiguable dwarf (!). Who liked WARHAMMERS. So I stuck them in a barracks on day 1, and they are ungodly legendary.

To make matters better, I mined out some adamantium, and shortly thereafter my armorer hit fey mood and made adamantium greaves. And another peasant got possessed and made an adamantium boot. Now my ungodly warhammer dwarf is outfit in two adamantium artifacts, and top quality adamantium.

They oneshot a giant, effectively. No joke, they ran up and struck them in the leg so hard they succumbed to pain in one blow and then proceeded to get beaten to death.

My only wonder is what the best material is for a warhammer. Or does quality matter more. I lucked out on a one-from-masterwork steel warhammer on my first caravan but don't know if something else might work better.

Silver's the best IIRC.

I'd say Spears...once Combat is fixed. Until then, Axes.

Can't sleep, Deer will eat me...

Too bad it didn't work out, Fuzzy. I know you know this, but you really should invest in some RAM. It doesn't cost that much, hahah.

I get 40 FPS in a fort with 80 dwarfs in 2010, so I'm all fine with that aspect. Go ahead, Snook. I'll follow after you.

I know, but why buy RAM for a computer that my mom will use to get on the internet? I can live for a few weeks.

I still have temp and weather on and i'd rather not turn them off. It just feels...wierd. Since this isn't going to work, I guess I'm dropping out. You guys might as well just use a new spot since my save has nothing done but a little digging. When I get my brand new awesome computer in like 3 weeks, can I get a turn again? :P
