I'm stumped with what to do with my current fort. My original megaproject plan to build a towering lighthouse has been ruined due to map having only 15 above ground Z levels. Once I'm finish building the nobles housing I won't have much to do with my legion of masons, and that it simply unacceptable. So does anyone have any ideas for megaprojects that wouldn't require more than 14 above ground z levels?
If you mean Giant Rats (which aren't vermin), you can view the animal's preferences screen and select them for slaughter, v -> find the rats -> i -> s. You could also mark them for slaughter in the animals screen, z -> enter -> find the rats in the list -> b.
I've been having a lot of luck with my current fort. When I embarked, I noticed I had a very agile, very strong, tough, and indefatiguable dwarf (!). Who liked WARHAMMERS. So I stuck them in a barracks on day 1, and they are ungodly legendary.
To make matters better, I mined out some adamantium, and shortly thereafter my armorer hit fey mood and made adamantium greaves. And another peasant got possessed and made an adamantium boot. Now my ungodly warhammer dwarf is outfit in two adamantium artifacts, and top quality adamantium.
They oneshot a giant, effectively. No joke, they ran up and struck them in the leg so hard they succumbed to pain in one blow and then proceeded to get beaten to death.
My only wonder is what the best material is for a warhammer. Or does quality matter more. I lucked out on a one-from-masterwork steel warhammer on my first caravan but don't know if something else might work better.

Too bad it didn't work out, Fuzzy. I know you know this, but you really should invest in some RAM. It doesn't cost that much, hahah.
I get 40 FPS in a fort with 80 dwarfs in 2010, so I'm all fine with that aspect. Go ahead, Snook. I'll follow after you.
